Local forcasts call for a high of 101 - 105 for the next 4 days here in St. Louis. There are going to be some folks who will not make it through this heat. I hope everyone can find a cool place to stay.
"wishing every month of the year could be June" - JB So TRUE!
Please include IN, OH, WV, MD, VA and DC in that phin power!
We had a Derecho* that started in Indiana at 2 PM and arrived in DC at 10 AM. The DC area had winds in excess of 70 mph. More than a million people are without power in the DC area and the power companies are saying it may be a week before power is restored and with temperatures over 90 degrees many people are having a really rough time. We also have limited cell phone service because of downed towers. MD, VA and DC are in a state of emergency.
*a derecho is a widespread and long-lived, violent convectively induced straight-line windstorm that is associated with a fast-moving band of severe thunderstorms in the form of a squall line usually taking the form of a bow echo. Derechos blow in the direction of movement of their associated storms, similar to a gust front, except that the wind is sustained and generally increases in strength behind the "gust" front. A warm weather phenomenon, derechos occur mostly in summer, especially June and July in the Northern Hemisphere. They can occur at any time of the year and occur as frequently at night as in the daylight hours.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"
It's crazy. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
If you can help these people in any way, please do. I speak from experience-just letting someone take a hot shower when they haven't had power for a few days is a HUGE help.
Also, don't forget that PHIP has an "In the Shelter" fund designed specifically to help Parrotheads in need when things like this happen. It's part of the Paradise Charitable Foundation.
Phin power to those in need! I saw some of the video from the wildfires this morning. It's heartbreaking to think that so many are at the mercy of envrionmental forces more powerful than us and there is nothing one can do but prepare and hope for the best.

Hope all is okay with you and yours ... prayers going out for so many who are suffering right now ...
I'm just tryin to get by, being quiet and shy, in a world full of pushin and shove
We got some of those 70 mph winds here in Raleigh Friday night completely out of nowhere. To experience those kinds of gusts with no rain directly associated with them was strange to say the least. We've also had temps over 100 degrees for two days running. Not sure what today holds but it's already up to 97. I love summer, except when it's too hot to even be outside. That said, June started off rather nicely with temps in the 70's (also very strange, not that I'm complaining).

We're fine. Our neighborhood just had the lights flicker a few times at the height of the storm....which lasted about 30-45 mins. We didn't even know what was going on until I realized I didn't have cell service and we went out to run some errands. We have lots of friends without power and offered to have them over to keep cool. Crazy stuff going on here. I haven't seen gas lines like this since the 70's. Driving is dangerous because no one is paying attention to an intersection with a light now needs to be a 4 way stop. I hope power comes on quickly.
