would you use a Female DR?
just went in for my " you have turned 50 " physical (yeah yeah.. I'm almost 2 years late)
I was asked " our DR is female is that an issue?" I was like
Uh did she pass the Tests? is she under review?? why would it matter??
I was told that some people (Women and Men) do mind.
do tell.

It's silly but if I had to pull my junk out I would be nervous about that.
But if can get a few tugs in before she walks in......sure

I don't see it any differently than I have seen a male doctor for my female issues for 34 years. I trust him. That's all that matters to me.

Re: would you use a Female DR?
I have both female and male doctors.....I love having a female GYN....because she "gets it" when I say I am about ready to go on a menopausal homicidal rampage.....my old GYN was a male....he would pat my knee and nod.....my doctor now says, "Let's get this fixed" and helps me figure it out.
Other than that, it's a coin toss.....I don't care either way.
My Mom's oncologist was a female and she was a raging, heartless b****.....
My ex MIL's pulmonary specialist was a male, he was a prince.
Like with most professions, to me it comes down to the individual....not the gender, race, etc etc

Re: would you use a Female DR?
Last physical I had, the doc had humongous hands. ba doom bap!
Speaking of surgeries south of the border, I am considering getting the boys snipped this year.
& I really don't care if the Dr is male or female, but I'd still be a tad uncomfortable at first, but it would pass,
besides I'm always nervous at the Dr.'s office anyway.
I try to look at things like that like "hey they're not triple F-ing me, what do I care?"

That's one things about being a woman.....between having babies and various sundry GYNO related exams and issues.....at some point you just sort of lose your dignity and it just doesn't matter!ragtopW wrote:both of my surgeries have been south of the Bordersonofabeach wrote:It's silly but if I had to pull my junk out I would be nervous about that.

The female form is very beautiful, but there are some serious engineering flaws.

Re: would you use a Female DR?
I had a female doctor for the last 9 of the 11 years I lived in Honolulu. She was pretty damn good, I.M.O. (Dr. Carolyn Grady, Kaiser Permenente).
One of the "company doctors" I now use is female, and she's very good as well.
If they know what they're doing (and they do), and they make me feel better of whatever ails me (and they do), I don't really care if it's a male or female.
They're professionals, and act as such.
That's all I can ask for.

Re: would you use a Female DR?
i prefer to see a male gyn because they are typically more sensitive to the fact that you are uncomfortable.
female gyns seem to skip all the 'formalities' as if they assume you are comfortable because they are female. for example, they tend to just move your legs in the stirrups and elbow their way in rather than asking you to move them.

Re: would you use a Female DR?
It's really strange to hear a guy ask about a female doctor. Most women I know went to a male gynocologist and there never seemed to even be a question that it was ok since there were not many female docs around (that was when I was young...many many years ago!).
With that being said, I switched to a female nurse practitioner for gyno and everyday doc stuff about 12 years ago and could not be happier! Doctors (male or female) seem to have a holier than thou attitude....The nurse practitioners and midwives listen more and seem to have a much better understanding and communication skills....

I don't think I would have asked If they hadn't made a point of informing me prior to me making the AppointmentMammaBear wrote:It's really strange to hear a guy ask about a female doctor. Re: would you use a Female DR?
It doesn't matter.
My 90-year old aunt has required her doctors be female all her life. It's a holdback from her married years: her husband didn't "LET" her go to a male doctor. It was a control factor, I think. But she IS 90 and pretty healthy, so something worked !!

Re: would you use a Female DR?
I am a female. My "female" doctor is a man. My "regular" doctor is a man. I've also had female doctors for both "categories." They've been trained....I have no problem with docs of either persuasion.

Re: would you use a Female DR?
I would, and I do. My GP and OB/GYN both happen to be female at the moment, and both are great. I've also had men for both that were great, too. But my previous GP was male, and bugged the crap out of me. People are people, and so are doctors... doesn't matter. I guess they probably ask because some old fashioned dudes or dudettes have probably freaked out when they walked unexpectedly into the room.
As an aside, I think this should be your new sigline! LOL
