I'm sure all those cheering for backing the President and coming together were also championing the same message during the eight years of Bush?
Yep, didn't think so

As a matter of fact, I was. I didn't vote for George W. either time, but once he was elected, he became my president. No matter how much I disagree with who is in the White House, he commands - and receives - my respect. It's part of the cloth I'm cut from.
I think Molly and I come from a different time and place. And, I would have felt the same way had Romney won.

In order for the United States to come together politically people need to re-learn what exactly government is intended for and formulate baseline for agreement on how to measure successes and failures. The fact is despite what 24 hour news stations preach and what attack ads from both parties will have you believe the office of President of the United States, the subsequent appointed Cabinet, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Washington on a Federal Level in general has minimal implication in terms of their policies and decisions on how the economy is doing and how the job market is gauged. I find it laughable that two accomplished people running for President have to discuss things that absolutely nothing to do with the appointed office they are seeking because of generalizations supported by ignorant thought. The two parties are for more alike then people choose to acknowledge or accept - at least at the Federal level. But that doesn't support CNN's or Foxnews' ratings so let the propaganda continue.
Without looking, how many of you can name President Obama's Chief Economic Advisors or the Security of the Treasury (and who the front runners are to replace him when he leaves office - I support John Reed or Gary Gensler) . . .? The factors that truly effect the economy are not directly political and they tend to be situations that our government can't control (such as China joining the World Trade Organization in 2001 which was the direct result of roughly 50,000 United States manufacturing jobs lost per month and since the year 2000 the United States has lost 32% of its manufacturing jobs overall). But that sh*t aint fun to talk about so people just blame the side they didn't vote for.

Petition drive launched to split NC from US
PITTSBORO, N.C. — Conservative activists in 20 states, including one in the Triangle, say they want to secede from the United States after last week's election.
Randy Dye, a conservative blogger and columnist, filed a petition at the White House website to split North Carolina off from the nation. His is among 20 petitions filed by conservatives and tea party activists nationwide after President Barack Obama was re-elected.
"I don't see anything good coming out of Washington, and I think a lot of people are feeling that same way this day and age," Dye said outside his Pittsboro home.
He dismissed the notion that secession is a radical reaction to an election.
"When our forefathers split from King George, that was a pretty radical idea, too," he said.
Dye said he sees the election as proof that the country is headed toward socialism.
"The Democrats can have this country. They deserve it. It's going to fall, I think," he said. "I don't mean to be doom and gloom, but I'm just doing the math and the economics."
States cannot withdraw from the U.S. – in 1869, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled secession is unconstitutional. The North Carolina constitution also forbids it, and state Attorney General Roy Cooper says it shouldn't even be considered.
"Yes, we have problems. Yes, some people may be frustrated with the outcome of the election. But it's time for us to come together and do good things for this state and this country," Cooper said.
Dye said he doesn't expect his petition to accomplish much, but it already has more than 8,400 signatures. If it reaches 25,000 signatures by Dec. 9, the White House will have to formally respond to him.
A Texas petition has already topped that threshold.
"Will something come out of it? I don't know. It's more of an ideology stand than anything," he said.

Given that there are 25 million people, more or less, who call Texas home, it wouldn't seem to be too difficult to come up with 25K people
(which is 0.1%, or one-tenth of one percent of the total population) who don't have the sense that God gave to an armadillo trying to cross a highway — especially since they don't even have to get out of their computer chair; just click a link to a petition that someone sent them. A petition, I might add, that is totally accessible to anyone with a computer, and completely unverifiable. Anybody, Texan or not, can sign onto that thing and there's no way of knowing.
And even if they get a quarter-million people who are truly Texas residents; well, that's still only one percent of the population. Talk about the tail wagging the dog!

Awesome! Don't let the door hit you in the ass. How do we start the paperwork???
From the Blue States;
Dear Red States:
We're ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics and we've
decided we're leaving.
We in New York intend to form our own country and we're taking the
other Blue States with us.
In case you aren't aware that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon,
Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the rest of
the Northeast.
We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially
to the people of the new country of The Enlightened States of America
(E.S.A).
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd
Akin.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.
We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states
pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian
Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of
single moms.
With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the
country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92%
of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines (you can
serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of
the high tech industry, most of the US low sulphur coal, all living
redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools
plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese
Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US
mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of
all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush
Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by
a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death
penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that
Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you
are people with higher morals then we lefties.
We're taking the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in
Mexico.
Sincerely,
Citizens of the Enlightened States of America

----------------------------------------
You are correct that Repuclicans do not understand the concept of Seperation of Church and state. I for one want us to go back to the way Thomas Jefferson, who uttered that phrase, practised it. Within one week of being sworn in, President Jefferson attended church services in the US House. A practise he continued every SUnday he was President. Madison followed suit. In fact, those services continued until after the Civil War. They were led by every Protestant denomination and Catholics were allowed in in the early 1800's. There were even women led services.
As for President Obama. It was a long and trying election cycle. I hope and pray that he can bridge the difference between parties. But actions from his White House are already saying he will continue as he has for the past 4 years. But hope springs eternal.

So stop doing so.

hmmmmm
State seceding...states can't secede, nobody wants Alabama on either side....Well there is not but one answer I can come up with.
I'm seceding from Alabama. Now if anyone needs me I'll be sitting on my porch with my shotgun, gotta keep the idjits ran off.
Actually I made the mistake of pointing out to a serious proponent of this that Alabama gets back $2.66 for every one dollar we send to Washington. He said we don't need the money, he is a state employee. Then he changed the discussion to one about the black helicopters that have been buzzing his trailer (yes, he was serious)at night....with their anti collision lights on. Now If I was going to paint a chopper black and fly it at night I would turn the running lights off to keep the effect authentic.

Maybe we
*should* let the Texans secede (secdee?) — it appears they've already got their own language:
And yes, this is Texas. That's the corner of 5th Street and Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, with the Mexic Arte Museum in the background right.
