Blake Shelton Calls Classic Country Fans “Old Farts” & “Jackasses”

"New" country takes on many forms these days, including "hick-hop" (see below). I imagine Blake Shelton is completely unaware of Americana since it's shunned by commercial radio. As much as I love alt.country, much of what gets attention under the "Americana" banner is considerably toned down compared to the Drive-By Truckers, the Old 97's, Lucero, James McMurtry, etc. Even Chris Knight, who gets a lot of attention on CMT, has never really seen a lot of support from the commercial country world. Same for Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, both of whom have pretty much owned the Americana Music Awards over the past few years. The most successful "Americana" album in recent years has been Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Still, I'll take Americana over what passes for "Country" in Nashville these days any day of the week. Jury's still out on hick-hopNanaBabe wrote:This whole thing is laughable. Where has Blake Shelton been for the last decade or so?
The changes in country music, away from classic country, have given birth to the best new "genre" of music to come down the pike since rap was born. Americana is based on classic country and bluegrass and it's becoming absolutely HUGE ... and it's audience and performers are definitely young people!
I don't see any for sale here but his website probably doesn't reflect what he's selling on tour. Plus, I'd say this is a relatively new development so I kind of doubt they'd have any printed up yet.Tequila Revenge wrote:Do you think the tee shirts are out yet?
