Beach Balls At Concerts
At Jimmy's first of 2 concerts last year in Vegas, the security guards on the floor started gathering the many beach balls and not letting the fans hit them anymore once the concert started. I was just wondering if this happens at all the venues and why. I'm guessing it either ticks someone off if you hit their beer or maybe it's a legal issue with the venue. I didn't remember that happening at other concerts but I could be wrong. I personally think it adds to the party atmosphere.

I'd be fine if they took all the beach balls away once the show started. But I'm old.

I wish they did that at every venue. It's tough to enjoy the show if you're dodging beach balls all night.

In Atlanta they fly before and into the early part of the show. The lawn is more energetic and it continues longer but in the reserved seating area many of the inflatables end up on stage and Jimmy will occationally kick one back out. I don't mind it much, don't drink during the show anyway.

Re: Beach Balls At Concerts
I was sitting on the floor section for the second show and I don't remember seeing the ushers take any beach balls away. Most of the ushers at the MGM are little old ladies and were just having fun with the crowd. They are the nicest ushers I can think of at any venue.
I do agree that the balls should stop the minute the house lights dim.

Re: Beach Balls At Concerts
At the Alpine Valley concert in 2009 the beach balls seemed to keep ending up at the front of the crowd and onstage, probably due to the weather (windy and rainy) that night. Balls that made it onstage got kicked off into the wings. OVERSIZE (larger than, say, 14-inch diameter) beach balls had already been declared contraband and were confiscated/punctured by ushers or Jimmy's front-of-the-house security ... otherwise known as Charleston.

Back in '99 ('98?) Jimmy soccer kicked a beach ball
from the stage at Merriweather Post
that went straight out and nailed me
in the face in mid-sip of a full beer.
"Yes", Jimmy bought me a replacement beer.
He also apologized for the next 3 songs.

Our group caught dozens of balls for our friend to sign and hit out to the crowd. One made it on stage and Jimmy dedicated"Come Monday" To her and her husband.
Buffett should have balls. (the concert of course)

I almost took Mike Utley out with one at Meriweather.....way back when. Didn't mean to spike it quite THAT hard. Bounced off of his cup sitting on the keyboard. Thank God for cupholders!!!! He and Jimmy were laughing about it......something along the lines of "INCOMING!!!!" I'm guessing.

Re: Beach Balls At Concerts
I had tennis elbow once, I can’t imagine how bad it must be to have beach balls.
But really, they pop them because one person there really does not like them. he probably has had his share of stuff thrown at him on stage to last his lifetime, so once the show starts, the beach balls get popped.
I do not complain, its showtime!!!!
