Hopes For A Future Concert at the Miami Marine Stadium??

What are your thoughts?

Jimmy played Miami's Marine Stadium in the early '80's - remember...Live By The Bay?

I'd hope he is able to get back and play there again - although now the old venue is pretty torn up and closed to the public.

However, there is a preservation society working to bring it back to life.

This could be the perfect spot to close out Buffett's final tour.

while a nice dream, this probably isn't going to happen due to the factors you mentioned: access, and condition.

And the fact that we're nowhere near Jimmy's "final tour". [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

One of my pet peeves on this site is the constant speculation about Buffett's retirement. I can tell you what my opinion is. Buffett, in my opinion, is not going to retire anytime soon. Why? He loves performing in front of an audience. It's who he is. It's a high. Health permitting, I can see him performing into his 70s. Next, he's a businessman. Health permitting, he will keep performing as long as it's financially lucrative. It makes no sense to expand his Margaritaville empire as he is doing and to retire. You want to keep playing, keep people ordering the T-shirts and coming into the restaurants. Expansion and retirement simply do not go together.

As a resident of Miami, things happen down here very slowly. I personally will believe the restoration of the marine stadium when I see it. I'm all for it, but as a Miamian, I'm highly skeptical.

You may be right — in fact, I hope you're right — that he will continue performing and touring into his 70s, but didn't Eric Clapton just announce that he would stop touring once he hits 70?  And we all know that Mick Jagger (who is turning 70 himself this summer) and the Rolling Stones just don't give as much 'Satisfaction' as they did when they were younger.

I personally hope I never see Jimmy coming on stage with a walker or a Hover-round just because he can't bring himself to stop.  When the time comes that Parrothead #1 does finally call it quits I want it to be while he was still be able to bring his 'A' game from time to time; not after he has become a laughing stock or a mere parody of his former persona.

As for the stadium itself, it would be nice to see it refurbed and restored; but based on some of the pictures I've seen of the graffiti and such it appears that there's been too much neglect for too long.  Then there's the fact that it was originally built in the early 1960s and would undoubtedly require much modification to bring certain parts of it, like electrical wiring and restroom facilities, up to modern code (not to mention making it ADA compliant).  Purely from a cost factor alone, it would probably be cheaper to pull it down and rebuild new.

I think he needs to do some pay-per-view for those that have never seen him and are not ready to shell out the big bucks. He could also increase fans this way. DVD's are okay but very static. I think he could do a live show and really capture the excitement. I think he should do a dang T.V. special for that matter! I will still go to shows, (providing I get a job) and be an idiot with all my wonderful friends.
