Reading the autobiography of childhood hero and Boston Bruins great Derek Sanderson, “Crossing the Line: The Outrageous Story of a Hockey Original."
Turk talks about his relationship with Jimmy dating back to 1971 – "he had one album out" – including a friend getting Jimmy a job at a gin mill in Cambridge and "hanging out" together in Derek's bar, Daisy Buchanan's, in Boston. (There's a photo of the place, too.)
And more on the story behind Boat Drinks from a night they both got "a little squirrelly" at the bar. Rum and tonic was the "anti-freeze" of choice that night, Derek recalls.
Derek: "Who knew (Jimmy) would end up being one of the all-time great performers?"
The book is also about Derek's journey back to health following years of alcohol and drug abuse.
So far, great read.
Derek's a good guy, too, who I had the pleasure of interviewing in 1981, just as he was beginning to live without booze.

I remember listening to a 2-part in depth radio interview with Derek way back. It was unbelievable. I couldn't stop listening to it. Is that book available in the library or stores?

It's on our library's (Pitt's) site as an e-book.
