it jumped the shark when Jimmy tied in with the casino boys and they put up the one in Vegas. Prior to that, they were places that had ties to his history. They were beach places. after that, they were about bringing in yellow-album tools to swill down overpriced drinks and prepackaged servings of food. Haven't set foot in any other than Orlando, KW, and on the one trip west, Vegas. I'll be sticking with the non-casino-affiliated ones, if and when I go. This is just another nail in the coffin of the idea of Margaritaville.
I've always considered Margaritaville more of a "state of mind" than a specific city. I see no reason why a Margaritaville Cafe can't be placed in Vegas or many of the other locations. Just my own opinion, calling people "Yellow album tools" is a little harsh. I'm a parothead but I don't mind associating with people who only think Jimmy has one album out. It's just like on the Buffettnews forum. I like when new people come on board. I am one of them, even though I'm in my 28th year of being a Buffett fan. And by the way, it was the yellow album that got me into his music.

it is a state of mind, you are right. unfortunately, the more times they try to interpret it for the bean counters, investors, and day-trippers, the more the magic is lost. and the harder you have to fight to hang onto it.ParrotHead67 wrote:RinglingRingling wrote:for what little my opinion might be worth:

as for "yellow album tools", there is a difference between folks who get the music and only have the one album; and folks who show up for a concert, drink to the point of stupidity, talk during the 80% of the show they don't know, or don't like, and then wander off, having punched their ticket for having gone to a Buffett concert with the misimpression they know what it is about.

That is probably because we do not have casino gambling in Texas, unless you count the Kickapoo in Eagle Pass (think I'll pass). JB doesn't seem to just be opening up the cafe's anymore. If he did Galveston or SPI would be great, or the Riverwalk in SA.springparrot wrote:He has said many times that when he couldn't get a job, he could count on TEXAS.
And yet, there are no Mvilles here.

Sadly, Corpus Christi (aka Korpitos) would not likely make the list of possibilities.

For the record, at least for my record, if you live near one it's not nearly so appealing. I moved from New York to South Carolina in November. I live in Myrtle Beach, less than 10 miles from Margaritavile. I've been there 4 times and one of those times was just to stop at the outdoor bar for a drink. I had my obligatory margarita and left.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here
