Well, landshark, looks like it'll be up to us to make the Chicago tailgate worthwhile.

Also, my friend and I (the Buffett Virgin) will be reliant on public transportation, taxis, etc. Any recommendations for getting back from the show? some places (Toronto, for example) it's impossible to get a cab after a concert!

Good luck Chicago!
Wanted to, tried to in several different ways...but cannot. Just too damn much this go round.
Between Hotel, transportation, ticket, and the lack of how it all will go down, Chicago not a go to this year, damn shame, think venue COULD be coolest yet. But sardine? not me. Thanks but no thanks. And for premium bucks and lots of "hope THIS works?"
Enjoy, hope it is all that it can be............rarely miss a Chitown show, but...........Fins Up! To those who go, will be with you in thought, word, and spirit.....

Fruitcakes in the kitchen
Fruitcakes on the street
Struttin naked through the crosswalk
In the middle of the week
Half-baked cookies in the oven
Half-baked people on the bus
Theres a little bit of fruitcake in every one of us

This is nuts. A little over a month to go and no details on tailgating, etc. Getting a bit nervous.

Knowing the way the city works, probably won't find out til the day before the show if at all. Honestly your best bet is finding some bar.... preferably a tavern because they won't charge you as much..... I know a few that open early... and close late ( Close at 4am, reopen at 5am) those will be your best bets to start the day the right way.SBParrothead wrote:This is nuts. Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Re: Who's going to Chicago, 6/29/2013?
I am rather disheartened by the lack of conversation here from the Chicago crowd. Is anybody even going to this show? If nobody wants to tailgate, then we'll probably end up getting a 2-hour time slot before the show.
I've been looking forward to this trip for too long, so I'm having a good time either way.... But it'd be nice if some others joined in on the fun

Re: Who's going to Chicago, 6/29/2013?
We have a group of 8 going and we are stoked! Just waiting on the announcement for where and when we can tailgate! We were in Chicago this weekend and we drove by Northerly Island to get a lay of the land. It is right at 1 mile from the South lots for Soldier Field. I have heard it will be the same rules as Bears tailgating and that means about 4 hours before the concert and no tents. I did hear that if there is a grassy area you can have a tent and there seems to be lots of areas but not sure how easy that will be to get to. Anyone else have any rumors or info?

I found a link with a few pictures from a couple of weeks ago. I hope they get moving on the renovations or else they won't get done before our show!

Finally some news! Not the best, but at least it's something. Now the question is, what should we all do until 230?
Ready..... Go

I am usually there and napping by 2:30 in the parking lot...I would love to find a place to pre-tailgate until the real thing actually starts. Any thoughts???

Are you staying in a hotel or driving in? If you're driving in, go up to one of the bars on the northside that has an outside patio like Sheffields or Chief ONeils. If you're staying in a hotel, walk on over to Navy Pier (if you don't mind the tourists) and head PAST the margaritaville restaurant to the beer garden at the end. They usually have music. South Branch Tavern in the loop on Wacker has a nice outside area too along the river, but it's a little stuffy.LandShark9 wrote:I am usually there and napping by 2:30 in the parking lot...I would love to find a place to pre-tailgate until the real thing actually starts. You could also go up to the North Avenue Beach and hang out at Castaways for the morning. castawayschicago(dot)com. Just be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for parking if you drive...

A gathering of Parrotheads would be preferable to just hanging w/ normal people... So maybe we could utilize this forum and other social media to organize something?

Is anyone from the Central IL area (Bloomington/Normal/Peoria) going to Chicago? I'd like to either hitch a ride or I would drive if someone would ride with me to help keep me company on the drive back that evening.

Get a hotel! We're paying 50 or 60/ night @ the downtown Courtyard by Marriott by going through priceline. Enjoy the night... Don't drive home!

I don't want that much organization in my life...sonofasonfckcancer wrote:A gathering of Parrotheads would be preferable to just hanging w/ normal people... So maybe we could utilize this forum and other social media to organize something?
My wife and I are traveling all the way in from Brookfield! So we are staying at a hotel (the name of which completely escapes my mind right now...). We are up for meeting up somewhere beforehand though, or if others are driving in...we can try and find you in the lots...
It's kind of a strange proposition to not be driving to the venue...makes it harder to coordinate getting a group of people together.
Weather Mark might be good spot to meetup..about a mile/mile and a half from the venue.

Does anyone know anything about the reconfiguration? Hopefully the asked Daley to use the same team that tore up the airfield in only 8 hours
