Maybe we meet up in a hotel parking lot (hotel of some Parrotheads) for some pre-tailgating festivities? Not super excited about the idea of paying for drinks all morning, but we gotta start early!

Not sure that plan will work ... Thinking most downtown hotels have ramps instead of lots. Some sort of pre-tailgate gathering of Parrotheads would be great though

Help me out. Never done the Lawn Section, but thought Northerly would be a great place to try it. What to expect? Bring chairs or blanket? [maybe this is a silly question, cause we've stood through most previous concerts anyway]

Re: Lawn Section
Bring a blanket and head in early enough to stake out a good spot.Pittsburgh is my only venue but there you can't bring in a chair. You can rent a short "beach" chair but you'll trip over it all night.Do bring a disposable raincoat or garbage bag if it could rain. The garbage bag can stake your spot and you can throw it out.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Just stumble around and make friends. No one will be sitting anyways.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Re: Lawn Section
there will be little to no elevation to the lawn at northerly. As of right now its just a pile of dirt. This will be the first show that has ever used the "lawn" and also the new "bleacher" seats

Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Be careful of forming a group in certain areas. Police could consider it "mob action" and throw you all in the clink at 26th and Cali. Chicago is very tough on open containers on any public way.

I'm confident in my ability to outrun the the person next to me... So let's do it. What's a better way to make a memorable weekend than to risk a trip to the clink? Who even calls it the clink anymore? I'm in.

I'm going to turn up a couple of hours before showtime, sit in my reserved seat, and watch all you young crazies down there in the mud

I'm going to walk in a few minutes before showtime, squeeze into a tight spot by some newly made pals, and enjoy myself from dawn to dawn(ish). And maybe I'll toss some mud up toward your reserved seat to let you in on our fun.

Obviously you have never been to Chicago. Have fun, and remember Chicago looks to take everything they can from whoever visits it.... $5.43 a GALLON for premium gas in the city.... Gotta love getting bent over at the gas pump in the city.sonofasonfckcancer wrote:I'm confident in my ability to outrun the the person next to me... So let's do it. Since when are Parrotheads such downers? Didn't think that was possible. Everything you post is just bashing Chicago, the venue, the people.... Cheer up or shut up man.

I've been to Chicago plenty of times. Obviously. Never once even spoke to an officer of the law except that one time I traded patches w/ one.

Not bashing, telling the truth from someone who works in the city. And as soon as work is done, gets as far away from the place as I can get.sonofasonfckcancer wrote:Since when are Parrotheads such downers? Didn't think that was possible. Re: Who's going to Chicago, 6/29/2013?
Speaking as someone who lives in the South-West burbs of Chicago...please everyone do not be scared of our great city.
It's no more violent (or expensive) than any other major city in America and Chicago PD are some of the country's finest. Don't be a tool and you will probably not have any issues with them. If you are visiting, do yourself a favor and plan a couple of days at least here and visit some of the world's best museums/galleries/zoos/aquariums/etc. (some of which are literally a stone's throw from where the concert is.) You also can't leave without trying an Italian Beef sandwich or a famous Chicago Style pizza.
The Chicago lakefront is an amazing place to be in the summertime...Navy Pier, the Fountain, all the boats out on the lake. And to top it off we have Jimmy playing literally in the lake...it's going to be as great a day as you decide to make it! If you don't want to come that's fine and dandy, but please don't seed doubt in the minds of others that may have never been here and deserve the chance to come and make their own mind up about Chicago.

Agreed 100%. I'm just down the road in South Bend. Have spent considerable amounts of time in the city during my life, and continue to do so to this day. Of all my world travels, Chicago will always be my favorite place in the world. It's just great.spark26981 wrote:Speaking as someone who lives in the South-West burbs of Chicago...please everyone do not be scared of our great city.

Maybe Nighthawk had some bad experience(s) that influence what he/she posts. For that, I'm sorry. Chicago is a great, great place. Don't be afraid. This venue is going to be great - hell, none of them are perfect. Relax, enjoy a few cold ones, enjoy all that Chicago has to offer, and do what Parrotheads do best - have a great time!
Fins up!

Re: Who's going to Chicago, 6/29/2013?
So we will once again be heading to Chicago for another show. Everything is booked but the hotel. We're still playing the game on priceline.com but I'm getting nervous that we have over-played our hand. Last year we were able to stay downtown for the weekend and the bill from the parking ramp was bigger than the hotel bill. Me thinks we may not be so lucky this time. We haven't hit the panic button yet (we've got over two weeks), but we have located it and made sure it's in an easily accesible place.
We're still trying to plan our tailgating, usually we end up just bouncing from tailgate to tailgate (the wife is good at making friends). Anyone know of a lifestyle friendly tailgate or get together?
