Northerly Island, Chicago

This has got to be a joke, right? All to have it downtown it's ridiculous. No one took into consideration that ticket prices will include a "fee" from the city, outrageous parking prices, plus tailgating will be close to non existant due to the fact that you won't be anywhere near the venue in order to do it. Jimmy looking for a stupid vibe on an island downtown, Rahm and the city trying to get paid, they're not getting a dime from me. Alpine is out, Indy same (family stuff) this was the one show that me, my wife, friends and neighbors were looking foreward to and I know no one wants to pay through the nose for this. Think about it, the city added 600 reserved and 22,000 lawn seats for 30,000 total, you mean to tell me that Toyota was that bad to deal with for him not to return, Tinley is a pain in the rear to deal with but both parties got it done, to me this is just dumb. I guess we'll just listen to Sirius and save a ton of money and headaches on the 29th.

I've been going to his Chicago concerts every year since 1997.
I'm 99% sure that streak will end this year.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that the Taste of Chicago is going on that week. If so, good luck getting there, remember, there is only one way in, I55, all the other highways flow into 55. Have fun trying to get a room also if the Taste is going on. The hotels have already been put on alert due to the fact that massive amounts of people will converge on the city at that time. Can you say price gouging! So if you do decide to stay, bring tons of cash, but you already thought of that due in part that if you have a cocktail or beer it will cost a minium of $7.75 and upwards. The seating, yeah, only 8,000 reserved and 22,000 lawn, it's not worth sitting in the lawn for the amount of money they will charge plus all the fee's and the city amusement tax. J.B. and his crew dropped the ball on this one.

Personally, I LOVE the idea!
Right by Burnham Harbor...Can't think of a more scenic venue to see Jimmy in Chicagoland. You have the Chicago skyline, the lake with all the boats bobbing around...
Sure it might be pricey...but what isn't these days? Toyota Park was great for tailgating (and close to our house). Tinley frankly sucked...too far from the city and a major PITA to get in and out of. Both venues had no real soul...this is a chance to see Jimmy play on a friggin island IN Chicago!

I just looked it up and this concert is not during the Taste of Chicago. The Taste is 7/10-14. The City scaled down the Taste again this year.
I for one think this could be a good show. Not as good as Toyota, but much better than Tinley!

I think it looks like a great spot! You know it is a b**** to get in and out, just plan for it. Of course I have only been to Chicago once, so I don't know much.

I just looked and saw the the Taste is two weeks after the show, but none the less it's still a bad place (location) great scenery, just not downtown.

ever think it is a chance to film the northern version of "Live by the Bay"? tho, the fact that the island is even open for this concept is one of many dozen reason why Mayor Shortshanks should be lit up like a Christmas tree.

Not sure what else is scheduled for Chicago on June 29th but the Chicago White Sox have a home against The Cleveland Indians scheduled for that day with a 3:10 pm start time. This could cause serious traffic issues with Jimmy's show and pre-show tailgating.

There's a good chance Jimmy outdraws the Sox game. Maybe he'll dedicate Nothing But a Breeze to Adam Dunn.

That is divisional game for both teams so it could draw a sizable crowd plus it's the timing of the start of the game which could cause traffic issues with people trying to get to pre Buffett-show tailgating

I wouldn't worry too much about the Sox causing traffic issues, given the number of fans they draw...divisional game or not. Besides, it's not exactly in the vicinity of Northerly Island.

a) neither team will still be mathematically-eligible for the playoffs by then, and it's not like Chicago cares about the Sox..
b)
CLEVELAND...
c) so folks coming in for the game get off at 33rd, the concert goers get off at Roosevelt, they're at least a couple miles apart..
d) Cleveland..

Ummm...290...last I checked it doesn't feed into the Stevenson, also if you are coming from the northwest on 90/94 you can get off north of the city and come straight down LSD.
Or you could take the Metra Electric from the city to the 18th Street Station...and its about a mile walk from there to the Pavilion.
All in all I would say it offers more convenient access than either of the other 2 venues.

could take Lakeshore Drive north from 60thish too coming from the south side. and yes, this one is a bit easier to get to via mass-transit than the other two
