Hawaii Five-0.... disappointment

First a confession... I don't usually watch Hawaii Five-0. Tried it a couple of times, and enjoyed the episode with Jimmy's first appearance as Frank Bama, but never became a regular viewer.

Last night though... c'mon man....... Seriously? I know the episode wasn't meant to be about Frank Bama, but all we get from that (potentially interesting) character is that he drinks something made from snake blood, then functions basically as a jungle-taxi-driver?

I'll never claim JB is a great actor, or that he should be a major part of the show, but.... That was it???

(I"ll also go on record that the show as a whole is REALLY badly written... admitting, however, that the line about "lead in your pencil" was a funny bit. LOL :pirate: )

It would appear they had enough deleted scenes from the first episode to cobble together another one....

It's an awful show to begin with and adding an amateur actor to the mix doesn't make it any better. Although as Scott (chippewa) mentioned in another thread, Buffett can probably out-act Scott Caan.

Disclaimer: I didn't watch. The only time I've ever seen Buffett act was in Hoot. Once was enough.

I thought he was.... "adequate +". He didn't try to overdo it. Just said his lines and let himself go a little bit left-over hippie. (Not a huge stretch, probably. LOL)

Main contribution to the show was drinking a rice wine/snake blood concoction and joking about it as a Viagra alternative. Then he dropped the two main characters off in the jungle with some guns. Oh... and showed them the grave of his crashed copter.

Summary: Less than two minutes screen time? (guessing.) Maybe 6 or 8 lines total?

It's called a cameo.

You guys want DeNiro?

"Adequate" would adequately describe it. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

I am a fan of the original Hawaii 5-0 and was a fan of the new Hawaii 5-0 as well. I thought the first 2 seasons of the new version were very good. However, the show became one of the hottest on television, and the producers have forgotten that it is not enough to get celebrities on the show; you still have to tell good stories. There hasn't been a good story in quite some time, and this week's episode with JB was no exception: terrible, stupid, almost unwatchable. He literally drove McGarrett and his sidekick to where they needed to be. They could have done that themselves. Ridiculous.

Fins Down!

Saw the episode. Enjoyed seeing JB. Wish his part had been longer and a bit more involved.

The rest of the episode was totally unbelieveable! Please, come on...I mean, really? We were supposed to believe McGarrett and partner took out that whole camp and didn't cause an international incident.........and still not get shot in the process. Not to mention the fact that they never showed how Steve retrieved the body from the jungle and brought it back to the US......

And I have to nit pick here: after Freddie was shot, he told Steve to promise to tell his daughter that he loved her. Quote - "Tell her I love her!". At the funeral, Steve told her 'your daddy would have loved you'......not 'your daddy loved you!'

Hawaii-five-O was an excellent show the first few seasons. The character interactions were excellent and so were the scripts. It was quality.

To be honest, Jimmy deserved a better script. The writers wasted such an opportunity to do some quality work with his character. Why pay a big salary for a guest star and give him a cameo? Bet the rest of the cast enjoyed their week off, too.

She wasn't born yet when her dad died, so the message 'your daddy would have loved you' was what he needed to say to her.

I do like the show - except the episodes where they go to North Korea. The Hawaii shows are the best.
Yes, I wanted them to do more with Jimmy's character.
But his smile was worth it!

I thought JB did all he could for the part he was given. Bit parts would be easy for him anyway since he has the skill and nerve for that kind of thing. It is not a show I watch but JB did his part he got them a few extra viewers.
