It's called stretching things to make a point. Thought it was pretty obvious.

Guess not.
I don't know where "music purists" plays into it but yes, you would have been better off by not "stretching". I think you could have made your point much more effectively without doing so. Obviously, you felt differently.

If Jimmy did some one-off shows where he focused on lesser-played material from his catalog I would hope he'd have the whole band there with him. Sure, I'd go see him perform solo but the obscure songs I want to hear would sound better with the band backing him up.
it would be like it was in the early 70s, a nostalgia run.

Sorry teach, I'll try and do better on my next exam.

I never knew tight asses would be PH's but it takes all kinds.

Heart did a one time show playing Dreamboat Annie

but they used a string section (and I think a Choir) which would be a bear to travel with

No need to call me "teach" or to accuse me of being a "tight ass" or to resort to name calling. I would just think if you truly wanted to get your point across, the best way to do so would have been to be upfront about what you really meant, that way there's no question. Surely, it's not too much to suggest that Buffett break from the norm and do a theatre sized tour, even if for a few select dates, where he could dig a bit deeper into the treasure chest than he does in his regular concerts. Sadly, for some folks, it apparently is.

I wasn't calling you a tight ass, you are a tight ass. This is a goofy message board talking about a highly theoretical tour that a performer who doesn't stray from a concept will never do and you are treating like we are discussing the possibility of it actually happening.

Relax, get a massage, try a high colonic.

I can appreciate the irony of your post.

If something like this were ever to materialize, I've love to see it include Coral Reefers past and present as well as special guests such as Fingers, Jerry Jeff, Todd Snider, Jesse Winchester, Bruce Cockburn, James Taylor, members of the Iguanas, the Neville Brothers and Evangeline, etc. Fellow artists who've played a significant role in influencing Buffett and/or folks with whom he's collaborated over the years.

That would be fantastic to see such a thing happen. Sadly, it's not likely.

I think I will start a separate thread where people can post their "dream" Jimmy Buffett set list. I guess I'll need to come up with mine first.

Agreed but I believe he did a show in recent years where he brought back some former Reefers so you just never know.

I've often wished, especially with the now long time current CRB lineup, that they would just do some jamming during some songs and let their extraordinary talents shine. Every song seems to be musically "by the book." That's what makes hearing the same songs, year after year, get to be a lil monotonous. Imagine what it's like to have to play the same songs the same way show after show after show. It gets pretty boring!

Thank you for pointing me there. Clearly there are some people who want to see more out of Buffett than the same old show every year. There are some really good set lists posted on there!

I agree. It seems for the past 6 or 7 years Jimmy has just been phoning in the shows.
