Great concept!!
But, I'll bet with the "whole world" voting, it'll be same-o same-o. I've never minded going to a show with same-o same-o; to me they're all good when you're there. Just being in Hawaii for two shows would make it special.

Most of the songs from the 1982 US Festival set list still show up all too regularly on the recent and current tours. There is so much back wall stuff he could bring out instead.
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

I'm afraid of the very same thing in regards to too many of the standard, well worn staples making the cut. I know other artists have done similar things but the songs they played really were deep cuts. If Buffett goes the "Cheeseburger", "Fins", "Margaritaville", etc. route it's going to be a major letdown. That's if it even happens at all.

I love the buzz over this. First, it doesn't bother me in the least that JB is doing this in Hawaii. I live on the East Coast, and there is no way I can afford to travel to the show. I'm happy for the fans in the Pacific, and I'm grateful that JB is doing this at all. Second, I am with the school of thought that says to get away from the standards for this show and dig into the deep cuts. Here's a vote for "West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown," "I Have Found Me a Home" (can't believe he closed with it in Cincy), and "Saxophones." Third, JB announced it last night in Cincy; therefore, I will operate under the assumption that it will occur.

The only reason I doubt him is because he has a history of mentioning stuff like this that never actually happens (think the Coastal Confessions DVD, the albums he was going to perform in their entirety in concert and more recently, the Buried Treasure collection). I'm hoping he proves me wrong this time out.

I get that, and it's a valid point. However, I also think about all of the times I've said that I was going to do something and then decided, for whatever reason, not to do it. So, I'm going to give JB the benefit of the doubt.

About the Hawaii show...Jimmy says there is a show at the Waikiki Shell the week before Christmas, he thinks, and Part I of the show is playing the new album all the way through and Part II of the show is to choose the top 27 songs and that will be the show that night.

He announced this after playing Southern Cross.

He has. Within the last three years approximately. I was listening to a show live on RM and he played it. I was so surprised I posted it to BuffettNews.

Since there's no documentation of his very earliest shows (at least that I'm aware of) I imagine a great deal of the songs that appear on Down To Earth, High Cumberland Jubilee and the still unreleased Buried Treasure were performed live at some point in Buffett's career. Same for tunes like "Abandoned On Tuesday" and "You Don't Bring Me Candy" (if I'm not mistaken, he performed at least one of those during a Stumpo El Bando segment a few years back). That said, it would still be refreshing to hear him dig that deep into the back catalog during this show.

One thing to consider is since this will be a Hawaii show, RM will probably not air it live. So my question is, when will we actually hear this show? Let's hope they don't make us wait too long for the replay after the show.
