Chris young (No Not really anymore)
Has anyone heard the new Chris young song called "aw naw". It's nice to hear great country music on the radio. In my opinion Chris young and artists like him are releasing great well written raw country music. I also like Blake sheltons redneck song!

This? It's pretty much the exact opposite of the type of country music I like. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to even call it "country" music. The Blake Shelton association doesn't really help either. That's pretty much bottom of the barrel stuff.

Ha ha I knew you'd take the bait. I think both songs are horrible. I thought once you saw who wrote the post that I was being sarcastic.Tiki Torches wrote:This? Which Blake Shelton song is the one where he says "Chew Tobacco, Chew Tabacco, Chew Tabacco...Spit"?

Not that it's any indication of "real" country or anything but did you ever get around to listening to this?

I may have heard a Blake Shelton song that I like but that Redneck song isn't it. I'd rather hear a continuous loop of Turn Up The Heat And Chill The Rose, Too Drunk To Karaoke, Party At The End Of The World and Buffett covering Trippin' Billies and Glory Days.

Bonnie Whitmore
Rather than "baiting" people with BS such as this which is essentially a waste of everyone's time, I'd rather take the opportunity to try to bring artists (such as Isbell) to people's attention that I feel are actually worthwhile. One of those would be Bonnie Whitmore. For those familiar with Steve Earle you may be aware of the Mastersons, the husband and wife team of Chris and Eleanor Masterson, who not only play in his band but who are currently opening his shows. Bonnie is Eleanor's sister. At this point, Bonnie is probably best known for this duet with Hayes Carll (clip below) but she's also an artist in her own right. For those in the Triangle area of NC, Bonnie is going to be playing at the Station in Carrboro on Sunday, August 25th. Unfortunately, that's the same night Verlon Thompson is at the Artscenter (also in Carrboro) and Steve Earle is playing the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh.
The person that actually sings "Another Like You" on Hayes' KMAG YOYO album is Cary Ann Heart from South Carolina's Shovels and Rope, another band that's well worth seeking out.
...and, since I mentioned the Mastersons, here they are. Some folks may be familiar with Chris Masterson from his work with Son Volt several years ago.

. The fact that you consider it "BS and a waste of everyone's time" is your opinion. Oh and for the record I listen to artists such as Guy Clark, Steve earle, Rodney Crowell, Verlon Thompson, Tom waits, jimmy Buffett, Jerry Jeff walker, Lyle Lovett, joe ely, John Hiatt, Tom Russell, etc and really not a fan of the drive by truckers. I'm sure by now you plan on once again commenting in my Chris young thread....thus once again wasting everyone's time as you put it.
Oh and thanks for posting the YouTube clips, a lot of great music there. I saw Hayes Carll open for dierks Bentley and the travelin mccoury's a couple of years ago. It was a fantastic concert.

I thought you were being sincere with this thread, I had no idea it was an attempt to "bait" me when I replied. That's the part I find to be a waste of time and counter productive.jbfinscj wrote:I rather enjoyed it. Nobody told you to post on my thread....I just knew you would.. So, what did you think of "Elephant" by Isbell?

Re: Bonnie Whitmore
Incredible lyrics by a great artist. I own all of his solo albums, and think his latest is one of the best of 2013. Sadly you will only ever hear him on XM radio, which isn't a bad thing. I like that the music I enjoy isn't mainstream. I've tried to get into the Drive By Truckers, but just can't. I've listened to their albums and seen them live twice (Once with Isbell). I think they are talented, I can't put my finger on why I don't care for them. Jason Isbell's album and the new Guy Clark album should be on everyone's need to own list.Tiki Torches wrote:I thought you were being sincere with this thread, I had no idea it was an attempt to "bait" me when I replied. I love "Elephant" by Jason Isbell. If you know anyone that has fought the Cancer battle this song will hit close to home. "Southeastern" may be my favorite release of the year...so far.Tiki Torches wrote:I thought you were being sincere with this thread, I had no idea it was an attempt to "bait" me when I replied. "Another Like You" reminds me a lot of the John Prine/Iris Dement duet "In Spite of Ourselves"

Re: Bonnie Whitmore
I don't expect everyone to like Drive-By Truckers and it doesn't upset me when they don't as they can certainly be an acquired taste. The difference lies is in how those opinons are expressed. I can be very critical of Buffett's music which upsets some people but I do my best to express those opinions thoughtfully by using constructive criticism. Jason's music (especially outside of the Truckers) is more palatable to the masses than the DBT's and I believe that really shows with Southeastern. Thing is, he's done that without making any concessions to his sound to reach a larger audience. Receiving favorable press from folks like The New York Times hasn't hurt him either. It was very cool to see him play to a full house at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh recently. He's definitely earned it and deserves it.jbfinscj wrote:Incredible lyrics by a great artist.
