Country music outlaw Tompall Glaser has died today in his Nashville home after a prolonged illness, his family has confirmed. Mr. Glaser was 79.
The former Grand Ole Opry member was a seminal figure in country music's outlaw movement during the late 1960s and 1970s. Glaser, who began his career as a member of trio The Glaser Brothers, was included on the 1976 compilation “Wanted! The Outlaws” alongside Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Jessi Colter. It was the first country album to sell more than 1 million copies.

Very sorry to hear this. With the recent passing of Cowboy Jack Clement and Jody Payne, we've lost some real bona fide country music legends in the past few days. That said, I really don't have that much of Tompall's material. Aside from Wanted: The Outlaws, I just found one of his old albums on vinyl but that's pretty much it. It's not on CD (at least that I've been able to find) but on one of his mid-70's albums, Tompall covers "The Christian". Definitely a far cry from utter crap like "Too Drunk To Karaoke". Tompall did an excellent version of it. It goes without saying but his cover of Shel Silverstein's "Put Another Log On the Fire" is a perennial campfire favorite.
