Same here. A few years ago they seemed to tweek the formula a bit which wasn't that good. Had one recently and was good as it used to be.

One of my favorite porters is Anchor Steam

Have not visited BN in quite a while! My loss.
Have a great "local" that hosts monthly BEER SCHOOL, 4 brews from a different brewery and 4 dishes paired to that beer. Have had some absolute amazing evenings of sipping and eating with a table-full of friends.
Ya all should check out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheLeag ... rDrinkers/

Had Ommegang Abbey for the first time last night, fantastic! Lots of dark fruit, raisins and spices come through at the beginning and then ultimately mix and finish a deep sweet aftertaste.

I have next Saturday off..... I am thinking this might be a great time to go make my pilgrimage back to Kalamazoo. Been way too long since I have been there, and I need to stock up my fridge which is looking quite bear. Hopefully I can get a case of Cherry Stout, and some other great fall warmers.

Yes it is, and has been over a year since they had a batch due to last years bad crop. Though we got to wait a few more months for the wonderful Java Stout.

Drinking one of my favorites tonight:

New Holland Dragon's Milk

Bourbon Barrel Aged Milk Stout. 10% ABV. Amazing mouthfeel and flavor. This is a beer that quite simply makes me happy. It's an orgasm for my mouth.

Speaking of Java..... found some tonight at a liquor store. Sure its $15 a six pack, but well worth it.

The season starts early?
I personally don't like the java, but that's personal taste....it's a quality product, just not something I like (but I also don't drink coffee)

If you don't drink coffee why do you get up in the morning? Much like, if you don't drink beer there is no reason to leave work :pirate:

If anyone is going to the Solana Beach show next week, I highly recommend going to Pizza Port which is within walking distance of the Belly Up. Great beer and great pizza.

This was interesting. Not sure if interesting = good, but interesting.

I've never had a White Stout before. Wasn't sure what to expect.

It poured like a lager. Honestly, it looked like a Miller Lite with a strong head. The head had staying power.

On the nose, there was very little. Could not get any real aroma from this brew.

The palate, that was interesting. Based on the aroma and the appearance...getting a stout flavor was, well, kind of disturbing. But I got over that because I should have been expecting it. The mouthfeel was weak, not creamy like I expect from a stout. The flavor, in the end, came out like a weak version of a chocolate stout. A lot of cocoa on the finish, not much up front. But the finish was kept this from being a total waste for me. It kept making me go back and take another sip, and another.

A strong finish can make a beer. In this case, it saved it.

It's an interesting hybrid. I would drink this again, but I wouldn't seek it out.
