One Direction on The Today Show this morning

If you want to see what the fuss is about, or witness the shrill screams of thousands of teenage girls stretching for blocks, tune in to the Today Show now! They are the hottest band on the planet, and I've seen them in concert. So I've got that going for me... which is nice. (Or is it?)

The screaming... it's beyond comprehension unless you experience it live. They do it on cue, at any mention or inkling of the band.

You're welcome! :D

Happy Friday!

I love that you put this in the Off Topic forum rather than the Related Artists forum.

Thanks but no thanks.  I remember Beatlemania when the same thing happened (and to a lesser degree all the hype over New Kids on the Block), and according to my Mom the same sort of nonsense occurred when Frank Sinatra was first coming into his own back in the 1940s.

When I worked across the street from the Today Show studio, if they had a musical act that attracted hordes of screaming little bitches I made sure I went in the 6th Avenue entrance of the building when I got to the office. Anything to avoid Rockefeller Plaza.

6th Ave...or Avenue of the Americas? :P

Living there, we always called it 6th Ave. Visitors always called it Ave of the Americas.

It's 6th Ave. Only people who don't know any better call it Ave. of the Americas. It's like calling NYC the Big Apple. I don't know anyone from there who calls it that.

"Screaming little bitches..." Really Larry?
Won't some of them grow up to be Hooters waitresses?

I've written and deleted this post three times, not sure I wanted to field the inevitable criticism. But I decided to post after all.

"Screaming little bitches"...? They're teenage and pre-teen girls, and they deserve a certain amount of respect. I won't stand for "bitches and ho's" in rap music or in videos, so why did I let it go here for almost two days before I said something? Because it was one of my friends instead of a musician I can't stand? I'm not sure but nevertheless young girls (and boys) in our society deserve a certain amount of respect and calling them "little bitches" doesn't cut it.

Are TikiBar's daughters "bitches" because they scream for One Dimension or is it just the anonymous crowd of girls that gets called bitches? My answer is no, to personal or anonymous use of the term as applied to young girls.

Do I use the term "b i t c h?" Yes, I do, occasionally, for an adult whose actions define her as such, not just because she's a female, and certainly not a young girl.

Your mileage may vary but if I'm going to call out musicians and actors who use this term in a derogatory, disrespectful fashion, then I'm pretty much required to call out my friends when they do the same thing....

I think "One Dimension" sums them up pretty well. :D

I don't get it. Response does not seem to address the question in the edited quote.

Just got back from seeing the One Direction movie, "This is Us", in the theater as part of my daughter's birthday celebration. (They both saw it opening night, and my oldest saw it again last weekend, but this weekend they added extended footage. What better way to double their money?)

They're funny, charming, handsome, and can sing, and make fun of the fact that they can't dance, so there is some humility. And they're the first to admit that their success has been insanely fan driven (I guess they ARE related to Jimmy in that regard). Definitely the benefactors of Twitter on the industry... and they express their appreciation and awe that it's really happening, yet won't last forever. Nice lads.

(And thanks Jen for defending the screaming little bitches. They're human, they're fanatics, and they're excited, just like the rest of us. The only difference is that there aren't enough baritones in the audience to balance out the decibels.)
