2013-14 NHL Season

To say that I'm quite enthused the Winged Wheels are in the East is an understatement. Now I hope they don't let me down!

Tonight is the first game I missed of theirs since February. I am sort of glad I missed it, because after looking at the score, I may have thrown a few things at my big screen.

That didn't take long. The league now has 3 former Capitals as coaches. Not that it means anything.

Tonight was special. The Avalanche retired Adam Foote's number tonight. It was a fantastic ceremony. Many of his old teammates showed up for the ceremony.

Never underestimate the value of good goaltending.

My fantasy team was in 1st place through 5 weeks. I had won 4 matchups, tied in the other.
Jonathan Quick got hurt.
I then went 1-4 over the next 5 weeks, losing BADLY in most of the matchups. I dropped to 5th place.
Quick returned.
I won 9-1 last week, and am leading this week so far. I'm back in 3rd place, and can see the leaders again.

Yeah, I feel that one's team goes as one's goalies go. That's why I sort of thought the position could be overvalued. I don't remember what we assigned for wins/losses. It's tough because you can't always pin a w or l on the goalie. Sometimes you can but sometimes you can't. I always hated the games where the goalie stand on his head, saves 30 out of 31 shots and loses 1-0 because his team doesn't score.

Slovakia and Slovenia in the same draw? That'll be confusing.

The Slovakia one is a little more famous. They have several notables (including Chara) http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2014/1/7/52 ... key-roster. There are also 6 guys who's first name is Tomas.

I think they will beat Slovakia and Russia if they play hard, play position and don't run and gun it. Russia has offense but I think their D will let them down. I think they have a lot of KHL D out there which is what they did a few years ago. That didn't work so well. As a Caps fan, I feel bad for Ovie. Hopefully they will be 2-0 going into the Slovenia game. If they are not, they really better button it up and take care of Slovenia. There is not reason they should lose to them. I don't think Bylsma will let that happen. He's a damn good coach. Which, once again as a Caps fan, pains me to say.

I'm not sure about that last part. There are only 4 playoff games scheduled meaning only 8 teams play. I believe the top 4 get byes and the bottom 8 play in the "playoffs". The winners play in the quarterfinals against a team that had a bye.

Scary moment last night-Rich Peverly of the Dallas Stars had a heart attack on the bench during the game against Columbus:
