Bethel Woods, NY, the site of the original Woodstock in 1969 - Thursday July 17. It isn't on Margaritaville.com but it's on the Bethel Woods website. If this is true, I might have to go. And since it's still 5 months out, if I stop showering now I'll smell like the people who were at Woodstock by time the show rolls around.

That place is awesome. We made it a "Woodstock" & Finger Lakes Wine Tour mini vacation a few years back.

Since you've been to the area, any hotel recommendations? Surprisingly enough, in all the time I lived in NY I was never there.

Holy crow!!! This venue is about 1 hour north of me, I actually had a very small part in the concrete portion of the site's construction.

Yup! It would be the go/no go decision maker for me.

If anyone from out of town is thinking of going and has to fly in, check out Stewart Airport in Newburgh. I've never been there myself but it's north of NYC so it has to be an easier drive from there then it would be from JFK, LaGuardia or Newark.

The official line regarding tailgating, I guess:

In part:

Lots open 4 hours before.

Parking Lot Guidelines

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts prides itself in being a safe, family friendly environment. In order to provide for the highest level of safety and convenience for our guests, we have established the following guidelines for our parking lot areas.
◾Tailgating will be limited to the lined parking space and the area directly behind or in front of each vehicle. Tailgating is also permitted on the grass medians that separate the parking lots and the parking lots from the roadways.
◾ONE CAR=ONE SPACE. The blocking of the drive lane is prohibited.
◾All tables, chairs, coolers, barbeques, etc. must be kept within the parking stall.
◾Canopies (overhead covering only- no sides) exceeding 8' x 8' footprint and vehicles measuring more than 18' in length and/or 8' in width are not permitted to park in a lined parking space. Tents (enclosed structures with sides) are NOT permitted at all.
◾The saving of parking spaces will not be permitted. Groups wanting to tailgate together should arrive together.
◾Drive aisles must be kept clear at all times for free access of fire lanes for emergency vehicles.
◾Please drink responsibly during pre-concert tailgating since guests who appear to be impaired may not be permitted to enter the venue, and forfeit their ticket at their expense.
◾Grills are permitted for tailgating enjoyment, provided guests do so only in the same space occupied by their vehicle. Propane gas grills only, no charcoal.
◾Open fires (fire pits, bon fires) are not permitted.
◾All guests should cross roadways at the designated crosswalks, walk in the designated pedestrian walkways, and should NOT walk on Hurd Road or West Shore Road.

Don't remember too much about hotels in the area, but I do remember very narrow winding roads in the middle of nowhere to get to the place. Really great place though and lots of parking. Not sure about tailgate rules there either. We just went to see the site and museum. If we hadn't already made plans for GW and Pittsburgh this trip would have been great.

Hmmm..... That's just not going to work..... And if they hold to it, that's a show stopper for me.

New York is on the way to GW.

Tickets go on sale February 24 at 10am. Used to live in PA not far from there. Not a whole lot of hotel options nearby, a few mom and pop type places. Liberty and Monticello, NY would be your best bet or into Honesdale, PA. Actually a lot of the acts that play there, that don'y fly in an out on a private plan, as well as there crews stay in Scranton. Little over an hour drive, but TOO many curvy country roads to make that trip after a Buffett concert.

Wow, its been so long since I've been here it took me a while to remember my password...

Bethel Woods is about 40 minutes from my house, so I've been there quite a bit. They do allow tailgating, but I'm not sure what they will do about the four hour rule. My best friend is part of the State Police detail that works the shows, so I'll ask him and get back to you.

Yes, the roads are windy getting in and out of there and sometimes it takes a while to get out. Your best bet is to have a couple drinks after the show, take a nap and then leave. Monticello and Liberty are the closest hotels, but they are nothing special. I'm sure that we will have quite a few going from my neck of the woods, so if anybody wants to stay in the nicer part of the Catskills and car pool, I'm sure we can work something out.

Bethel Woods is a great place. Normally I wouldn't miss Jones Beach for the life of me, but this year I'm going to the Woods instead of the Beach...my, how very un-Buffett-like of me.

Bethel Woods is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. If you want to look on a map, the actual address is: 200 Hurd Road, Bethel, NY 12720.

There's pretty much 1 road in/out. Ever the optimist, I can honestly say that since it's opening I've heard nothing bad to indicate traffic being an issue with the venue. Hopefully the old-time locals and town officials remembered the Woodstock festival traffic horror and made the Bethel Woods folks put a lot of thought into traffic control and parking.

The Monticello Raceway & Casino is not far from Bethel Woods, about 15 minutes away. Here's a link to the Lodgings page of their website: http://www.monticellocasinoandraceway.com/lodging.php

The closest airport is Sullivan County International (chuckle, chuckle) Airport, a small county-owned public use airport. There are no commercial flights in/out of this airport. I'm wondering if this is the airport that Jimmy will fly into. I might have to take a run up there on Wednesday to see if I can spot his plane. :-)

The closest commerical airport would be Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY. Flights in to and out of Stewart are limited and usually cost a chunk more than flying into one of the larger airports such as Newark, NJ, JFK or LaGuardia.

The "one road in, one road out" shouldn't be an issue for anyone who's ever been to Great Woods or Alpine. Same deal. Come out of the show and have a couple of cokes if you're driving, a couple of drinks if you're not. Just plan on it taking a couple of hours, no biggie.
