Re: First Vehicles?
1964 Corvair Spyder, 2 door, manual trans. Black with red interior. It lasted less than a year and the engine fell out. Next was a 1963 Ford Falcon, 2 door, light blue, 3 speed on the column, baby moons. After graduation and prior to going into the Navy I bought a new 1970 Camaro RS, gold, wish I still had that one.

Re: First Vehicles?
This was my first new car, 1979 Toyota Corolla Sport Coupe, but mine was dark brown. I didn't make a lot of money back then so it was a 5 speed manual transmission because that was $400 cheaper than the automatic. I didn't know how to drive a 5 speed so my brother had to come to the dealer with me to drive it home. Then I had to go to work the next morning.
I had it for 8 or 9 years, had about 115,000 miles on it when I traded it in and surprisingly enough the clutch was still in good working order.

Re: First Vehicles?
First car to drive? My parents had a 1975 Monte Carlo. It had a 305 but it must have been the slowest 305 out there. In retrospect, I really need to clean the carb and linkages, etc.
My first car I bought was a 1992 Saturn SC. I drove it for 10 years, put about 192000 miles and go rid of it only because it was hard to put a car seat in a two door car. Loved that car.

Re: First Vehicles?
MY first car was '72 Chevy Impala 4 door bought with graduation money in '77. What a boat that was.
First brand new car ever purchased.....1980 Chevy Citation X-11. $5,650 off the assembly line. Mine was red with gold stripe instead of black. Was too cheap to purchase a real sports car. Went with a cheap imitation.

Re: First Vehicles?
1970 Buick Skylark. 350 motor and an automatic transmission. Looked a lot like this one.

I left it with my brother when I went to college and he slid it into a 7 ft. ditch in an ice storm.
Still wish I had it back.
Good news tho....
Just finished it's twin, except it's a convertible and has a big block 455 motor. Having TOO MUCH FUN, to say the least!

1978 Chrysler Cordoba. No it did not have fine Corinthian leather. Was two tone green with a crushed velvet interior. Was a nice car, but the transmission slipped.

Re: First Vehicles?
The first set of wheels that were all my own was one of these — a 1969 Plymouth Fury III 4-door hardtop sedan.

It was back in 1976; my next-door neighbor was moving to Madison WI and was looking to sell it. My dad and I, along with the neighbor, were checking it out in the back yard; we had the hood up and I was in the driver's seat. The engine (a small block 318 V-8) was running and I was revving it up; putting it in and out of gear (3-speed automatic) and listening to hear if there were any 'clunks' from the u-joint or drivetrain. Well, this vehicle had a fan with a clutch on it, and as I was revving the engine the fan clutch engaged. Apparently this had, over the life of the car, been putting a consistent strain on the water pump bearings, and this time was the straw that broke the camel's back. The water pump let go and the fan, released from its constraints, burrowed itself into the radiator with the most expensive-sounding racket I had heard in the 22 years I had been alive up to that point.
I reached out and shut off the engine, and amidst the rising steam and dripping radiator fluid I looked at my dad and he looked at me. I then looked at my neighbor and asked, "How much did I just pay for this?" Fortunately she didn't hold my feet to the fire; we settled on $100 cash. My dad knew a mechanic friend who used junkyard parts to replace the radiator and the water pump for around another $150 and I drove it for a year until I traded it in for a 1971 Ford Econoline van which was better suited for hauling my bike and me around to various cycling events.

1974 Monte Carlo that was the strangest color of gold I've ever seen. A month after I bought it, the transmission blew. My dad felt sorry for me so he paid for the repair. It was a great, solid ride. I loved that car.

Re: First Vehicles?
The first car I owned was a '64 Dodge Dart.
Looked kinda like this, but not nearly as fancy.

I think I got it around 1970 for $250.
Slant six with "three on the tree".
The only amenity was a heater.
Since it didn't have a radio, I drove around with a transistor radio on the seat.
Not exactly a chick magnet. (the car or the driver)

Yes. A friend and I drove that very car there. Drove all night. The music was just starting when I set up the tent and my buddy headed to the stage area. Next time I saw him was 3 days later he was sleeping on the hood... that was a great weekend. And a great car.

Re: First Vehicles?
I did the package deal and came in on a bus from Syracuse. I camped on a hill overlooking the North Stage at the advice of someone I met when I first entered the grounds who warned me what would happen if it were to rain. Sage advice as I remained dry (but not un-muddy). I think the band playing when I first arrived was Collective Soul. By the time I made it back down to the main stage after setting up camp Violent Femmes were onstage. Maybe not something I'll ever do again but I'm sure glad I went. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any fellow takers but I did meet lots of kind folks there.V-town Fin Truck wrote:Yes. A friend and I drove that very car there. Drove all night.
