Jimmy Buffett: With all due respect to his Parrothead fan base, the singer-songwriter who plays Blossom on Tuesday is more than a party artist.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Flash! Attention, Mr. and Mrs. America and All Ships At the Caribbean Sea and Florida Keys!: Jimmy Buffett has written and performed a TON of songs that don't have to do with drinkin', boatin', partyin' and, well, you know the other thing.

So with that in mind, I sort of collaborated with my friend Walt Grever, the Parrothead's Parrothead, and a bunch o' my Facebook friends to come up with a list of songs that A) are not "Margaritaville,'' "Fins'' "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw,'' etc.; and B) showcase the singing and songwriting abilities of the artist who returns to Northeast Ohio on Tuesday, June 24, for a blowout at Blossom Music Center.

I agree with the article. I don't really agree with the list of songs chosen to prove the point.

Definitely not a song I would use to help make my case that Buffett is more than a "party artist".

Hell's bells, anyone who has listened to more than just the yellow album already knew this.

And even the yellow album includes "He Went to Paris", "SOASOAS", "A Pirate Looks at 40", and "Come Monday" — hardly what I'd call 'party songs'.

Speaking from my own personal experience, there's a whole lot of people out there that only know Buffett from his "Mayor of Margaritaville" image which has come to overshadow his prowess as a songwriter. Those that care enough to dig deeper will discover a world of songs beyond the ones they're already familiar but for a lot of folks, they're simply not willing to make the effort and find it easier to knock Buffett instead. If articles such as this help to alter people's misconceptions about him I'm 100% for it.

Bingo! At first I thought writer was taking a shot at Parrotheads but upon further evaluation I backtracked from that thought. No question Parrotheads are notorious partiers in the lots........but no question they're also usually the most knowledgeable regarding JB's catalog & pine for the rarities year after year.

When I'm kicked back with a beer on my back porch listening to my favorite concocted Buffett CD I'm sure a stranger (who has no business in my backyard) who walked up would wonder where the songs came from, even though they may be a wee bit familiar with Jimmy.
