I have PS Elements 10 and want to add that horrible 4-letter word (snow) to a photo. I've watched/followed along with a video I found on youtube 4 different times, and have gotten 4 different results. None of them correct...Is there anyone here that knows how to do this and can send me written instructions? P & TY

I've never used photoshop so, as usual, I'm no help. I just responded so you wouldn't feel unloved.

I've never used Photoshop either, don't know the first thing about it. Maybe someday I"ll take the time to try and learn how to use it.

I am moderately familiar with Photoshop Elements 10. I'd be fascinated to see an example of what you're trying to accomplish because I have no clue how you'd do that and actually make it look realistic.

I use Elements but haven't tried adding effects to photos. And I have no idea if this site will be any good:

How to Add Snow to Photos in Photoshop Elements

Okay, falling snow would make more sense. I was envisioning taking a non-snowy photo and making it look like a winter scene.

Couldn't you just easily take any generic snow image,
make it a bit transparent and overlay it over another picture?
Just two steps. You could make it look better by editing more,
but those two steps will give you this ...

Thank you all! I was looking to add falling snow to a picture I've taken of a holly shrub. Just like the guy did in this video of adding snow to the scene here. http://vimeo.com/60676295

This is the first set of instructions I used...The man in the video has an accent (and me not being familiar with PS too much) didn't understand that at some point he was saying use alt and backspace. (That was one of my problems) I pushed forward a few times and never got any good results. I was able to get the photo finished, but it looked more like a holly shrub covered in dust. Not what I was looking for.

This set of instructions gave me a similar result, but with less, barely noticeable "dust". I wanted snowflakes like in the video!!!! http://www.iheartfaces.com/2014/01/how- ... photoshop/

There is this one that does allow you to build snow piles and add falling snow...I didn't even try that!!! http://www.pxleyes.com/tutorial/photosh ... hotos.html

I'll take a look at the link that nycfeat provided. surfpirate, I thought of that also but I haven't tried it yet as I haven't found the picture of the snowfall that I'd like to use. (it might be on a different computer).

Thank you all for your help. Good Luck if you try it. Post pics if you do, as will I. Thanks again. :)

I have a lot of experience with photoshop, I watched this video, and that's about how I would do it, if you haven't used photoshop much then don't expect to get it first time, you need to understand what is going on with all those steps, and that will take time.

How did your project work out? I'm curious to know what source you used.

hahaha, just signed in to update. I used your link nycfeat! It was soooo easy. If you've read any of them, they've said to do a fill layer in gray which I didn't understand why....yours didnt, and was so much better. I still haven't done the project yet because it would take quite some time to do. I need to figure out which brush and size I'd want to use and how to get my flakes the way I wanted them. It's a lot of work!!!! Thanks for the help. This will be a project to work on when I have a fair amount of time to sit and play. :D

To make a static snowfall without using the brush tool or masking

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDqo-E8sbOs

The above video is from version 12 but I have the pro version so I am not familiar with Element and the prior versions.
The noise filter and some blur will do the job.

There are many tutorials with step by step. But the above link is simple without using a mask tool.
