What is Jimmy's best piece of work?

Between the albums, the books, the businesses, everything.
I'd have to say "Don't Stop the Carnival." I read the book and was amazed at how well the songs captured the heart and sole of the characters.

That's a good example. But I'll go with side B of A1A.

The first half of "A Pirate Looks at 50". It's a great, fun read that (for me) caused some introspection, and I even feel i gained a little wisdom.
The latter half of the book (to me) became more of a travelogue. Sounds like a nice trip, but didn't have the same level of storytelling and reflective moments.
Of course..... A1A is a VERY close second.....

Couldn't agree more. A Pirate Looks at Fifty and A1A are hands down my two favorite pieces he has done. I read APLA50 every summer on the beach.

For me it will always be "Living and Dying in 3/4 Time" but I think "Banana Wind" comes a close second.

Jimmy singing nautical wheelers for funkhouse9. That was the moment Jimmy became a household name

Tough one..
Bookwise, I really like Tales From Margaritaville and Where is Joe Merchant.
Musically I like the Banana Wind/Barometer Soup era but I also like the A1A/Changes In Latitudes era.
Sadly, I couldn't nail just one. I've failed miserably at this assignment.

When the Coast is Clear, Performed on the Beach in Gulf Shores, 40,000 plus fans on the Beach but you could hear a pin drop when he sang that song. Lots of moist eyes and a lasting memory.

I don't usually cite Wikipedia as an authoritative source, but in this case it's accurate —
click here. So the B-side of 'A1A' would be side two of the original vinyl album
(tracks 7 through 11 if you have the album on CD):
A 1 A (Jimmy's 4th studio album, released 1974)
Side A
"Making Music for Money"
(Alex Harvey)
"Door Number Three"
(Jimmy Buffett, Steve Goodman)
"Dallas"
(Roger Bartlett)
"Presents to Send You"
(Jimmy Buffett)
"Stories We Could Tell"
(John Sebastian)
"Life Is Just a Tire Swing"
(Jimmy Buffett)
Side B
"A Pirate Looks at Forty"
(Jimmy Buffett)
"Migration"
(Jimmy Buffett)
"Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"
(Jimmy Buffett)
"Nautical Wheelers"
(Jimmy Buffett)
"Tin Cup Chalice"
(Jimmy Buffett)
It might be interesting to note that all five songs on side B were written by Jimmy during his "Key West" phase, and all have nautical themes. Three of the six songs on side A were written by other people, and Bubba shares songwriting credit with Steve Goodman on a fourth.

Side B of A1A is hands down his best work, what a powerhouse. And Side A ain't no slouch, either.

His real triumph is, of course, making money and building the most enviable lifestyle in the world....
(and good luck to him - I swear I am not jealous)

Envious, maybe .... but not jealous.
And there
*IS* a difference.

Second side of A1A is one of my favorite album sides of anyone! A1A would make my "desert island" album list for sure. Love the hell out of that album.
