Re: Detroit 2015
That would be really interesting. I have no experience with that venue, but I certainly have no love for Comerica as a concert venue. I assume parking/tailgating would be similar to Comerica (small, private lots, etc).

Re: Detroit 2015
I can't imagine parking would be good by the Riverfront as far as street level/lots go. Biggest parking I believe would be parking ramp/structures or underground parking.....not conducive to tailgating. Maybe I'm not to savvy to street level lots along the Riverfront but I just can't picture it.

parking would be cobo roof and the joe parking garages. But the people mover stop is right there. I think it would be different but it would be cool to watch the freighters go up the river at the same time as Jimmy playing

Re: Detroit 2015
I thought that JB mentioned "investing" in Detroit and I had heard rumors that he was looking at building a Margaritaville with a river front venue. Of course, this is all hearsay from last year.
If he is back at Comerica I will stay home. We bought tickets the day of the concert for something like $22 bucks a ticket which ticked off people who jumped and bought them for close to $100 a ticket the day they went on sale.
If he is coming to a smaller venue I may consider it. I have played the Parrothead game since the 80's so it is more about the experience with friends than it is about the concert. I truly miss the Pine Knob parking lot. The closeness of the tailgate is important to me. At Comerica it is all spread out and every parking lot has a different feel. The fun of walking and neighboring just isn't there like it was at the Knob. There is something very fun about about overfilling the park and ride in the morning and ultimately clogging I-75 so that the gates are opened by noon.

Re: Detroit 2015
Huey lewis won't be the opening act. They just announced an august 21st date for freedom hill. There is a chance they could open but it is extremely unlikely now with a concert in the same town.
I would take this as a hint that there will not be a opener this year which u would think means he is going to a smaller venue. Or a opener that we haven't heard of yet.

You have to admit, it was cool to get tix so cheap last year. Even though we were wayyyy back.
I hear you that the tailgate isn't the same as PK, that said, we had a good one last year Mel. We had good neighbors in our lot. Partook in some shotski's & Ice Luge action, so you could say we had the normal "amenities"! It is more difficult to bump into the "familiar" faces of PK, although I think some of them may have moved on.
One thing, I think no matter where you go seems to be more restrictions on how you setup/how much space you get. I think the good ole days are gone forever.

Re: Detroit 2015
Actually o.e.'s Twitter page says that a major announcement is coming tomorrow morning. It also includes a black out picture with a ? On it. The picture is clearly tailgating from last year.
So jimmy buffett in Detroit will be announced tomorrow morning.
Only mystery is if it moves to west riverfront park instead of comerica and the opener.

Here is some more info on this venue --- apparently it is expandable (parking is not great)
No word yet on what they will cap the attendance at.

Not that I would ever doubt anyone on this site (no reason to), but... where is the story? Just trying to read up. Going to have to figure out new a tailgating process.
