Re: Detroit 2015
If things don't change and its at west riverfront.....that is not chene park. Cheney is at the north end if the city. West riverfront is between the Joe and the bridge to Canada.
The freep article is linked above. They mention the park can fit a few thousand to 40k fans depending on how they set up the show. They also mention fields there for parking.
I'm hoping they limit the show initially to about 20k and keep part of the park as tailgating and parking.
Also there will be no hill.......so be prepared for a jazz fest type show where you'll be looking up at the stage and over the person in front of you.

I totally agree ...........PK rocked!PetalMel wrote:I thought that JB mentioned "investing" in Detroit and I had heard rumors that he was looking at building a Margaritaville with a river front venue. Of course, this is all hearsay from last year.
If he is back at Comerica I will stay home. We bought tickets the day of the concert for something like $22 bucks a ticket which ticked off people who jumped and bought them for close to $100 a ticket the day they went on sale.
If he is coming to a smaller venue I may consider it. I have played the Parrothead game since the 80's so it is more about the experience with friends than it is about the concert. I truly miss the Pine Knob parking lot. The closeness of the tailgate is important to me. At Comerica it is all spread out and every parking lot has a different feel. The fun of walking and neighboring just isn't there like it was at the Knob. There is something very fun about about overfilling the park and ride in the morning and ultimately clogging I-75 so that the gates are opened by noon.

Re: Detroit 2015

Now, do I try for tickets, or just park my boat in the river and catch the show for free?

Re: Detroit 2015
Already had the boat discussion with my friends. Will be cool to do. However I work with the sheriff and coast guard sometimes since we have equipment on our boat that law enforcement doesn't so I have a feeling that the coast guard will probably limit boat traffic to frieghtors only like they do for the fireworks. If not we might do the boat in the river thing

Re: Detroit 2015
So last year when I got my post concert survey from Olympia I suggested moving the show to the new park...I guess they listened....I'll take full credit if it goes off without a hitch..if it doesn't then I wasn't involved.
However I think this has the potential to be a epic show...finally a sequel to "live by the bay" . Detroit presents Jimmy Buffett "live by the river.....and Canada!"

The pholks in Chi-Town thought the Northerly Island show may give the same vibe. Hope it does not go the route of that reported fiasco!msu#1 wrote:So last year when I got my post concert survey from Olympia I suggested moving the show to the new park...I guess they listened....I'll take full credit if it goes off without a hitch..if it doesn't then I wasn't involved.

Re: Detroit 2015
Yea I agree. This is a extreme high risk or high reward show.
If it goes bad it will be a disaster but if they pull it off it has GE chance to be one of the more memorable shows people will talk about forever.
Chicago's problem was they didn't put down sod till days before and then monsoon came. That won't happen here unless we have the rainiest summer of all time. The grass at west river was put in LAST summer. It will be in good shape.
The big question mark is the parking situation. They said hey could park people right there but I hey go full capacity with the tickets the only parking will be cobo roof and the Joe garage. Yo u can't tailgate at the Joe.
People won't want tobwalk blocks in the dark either.
So everyone needs to bomb Olympia with emails tweets and Facebook messages so that they have the parking set tomorrow. Get on it bn.

Re: Detroit 2015
Not a lot of hotel options near the park. Which is a better place to stay, Dearborn or close to the airport.

Re: Detroit 2015
There are actually a lot of hotels in the city downtown area.
Book Cadillac, Ren cen, and all three casinos. Plus you have Windsor literally 5 miles away if you have a passport or a enhanced drivers license. You will pay a premium though for downtown hotels. I would seriously consider staying in Windsor if you have the option
The airport hotels are a good 45 minute drive and not that nice. They will be available though.
Dearborn is closer but I could only recommend the high end hotels as many in that area are not good.
I would just consider how far you are willing to drive and the price.
For the burbs I would look at troy, Utica, Livonia for hotels if you're not opposed to driving in with half hour to hour drives depending on traffic.
I wrote out a long Detroit concert Guide on here a few years ago. It should be still around.
