Kinda quiet here. Started "winterizing" Intemperance Island, always a depressing job.
The little peanut gets more adorable every day. Unfortunately, she's going to be put in a Spica cast at the end of this month. She was born with bilateral hip dysplasia. The put her in a Pavlik harness for 4 weeks but it didn't have the desired result (positioning the "ball" of the femur in the hip joint). Sooooo, she will be in a cast for about 3 months which hopefully will take care of the problem.

Will there be a closing ceremony for Intemperance Island?

Hoping not to close it up completely till after Halloween. Then maybe a memorial service. And a ceremonial "throwing out of the last drunk".

I'm sorry about the cast, but better now when she is still tiny and she isn't moving around much.
She is so adorable!!

Yeah, if there's an upside to this it's that she hasn't started crawling or anything like that.
The harness is usually successful in about 95% of cases, but her dysplasia was pretty severe. She was breach and literally folded like a jackknife in the womb. The doctors think that the unusual position prevented the hip joints from properly forming/aligning. There's also still a chance of other complications but they won't know that for sure until they begin the procedure to put on the cast. The procedure includes injecting dye and looking at an image of the hip joint. If there's some obstruction that would prevent the femur from properly positioning in the hip socket they won't be able to do the cast at this time. Instead, they'd have to do an actual surgery (with incisions, etc) to take care of that. That wouldn't be done until she was 6 months old. Obviously, we're hoping that's not necessary.

She gets that from her daddy. My daughter was virtually hairless for almost a year and a half.
