The harness is usually successful in about 95% of cases, but her dysplasia was pretty severe. She was breach and literally folded like a jackknife in the womb. The doctors think that the unusual position prevented the hip joints from properly forming/aligning. There's also still a chance of other complications but they won't know that for sure until they begin the procedure to put on the cast. The procedure includes injecting dye and looking at an image of the hip joint. If there's some obstruction that would prevent the femur from properly positioning in the hip socket they won't be able to do the cast at this time. Instead, they'd have to do an actual surgery (with incisions, etc) to take care of that. That wouldn't be done until she was 6 months old. Obviously, we're hoping that's not necessary.
