I've got RM on Sirius in my truck and it plays a lot. I like most of it. That being said, though, I do miss the kinda weird stuff RM played in the old days (pre Sirius). They had some strange captain guy telling stories, and a couple of other unique segments. Just don't hear that kind of stuff anywhere any more.

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but there's something about his delivery that makes me cringe a bit... The other jocks do a better job of staying on point and flowing from song to song a bit quicker.lime rickie wrote: ↑July 28, 2017 7:08 am RM does need to drop Matt Hoggatt from the DJ rotation though. That aside, Radio Margaritaville is just about the only station my wife and I can agree about in the car. It's our go to #1 pre-set, followed closely by E Street Radio.

COMPLETLEY AGREE! I started to post about Hoggatt as a DJ last week. I feel like I'm listening to Larry the Cable Guy and it just annoys me. I find myself not listiening to the station much during his block.andygradel75 wrote: ↑August 8, 2017 1:59 pmI'm sure he's a nice guy, but there's something about his delivery that makes me cringe a bit... I used to listen to RM and I somehow remember that captain guy. Planning to install Sirius on my truck. Hope those extra segments are still there playing there.krusin1 wrote: ↑August 7, 2017 12:42 am Interesting topic...

Re: Radio Margaritaville
Don't get your hopes up. Seems to have eventually gone to a more corporate feel, imo. I listen online at work, in the car, with my iPad in the backyard - no longer hear with any regularity The Boat Drunks, Sunny Jim, James Morris (RIP), John Frinzi, and no stories from the Captain guy. Pretty sure I also remember Bruce Cockburn, James McMurtry and Wes Loper from back in the indy RM days. I'm sure there are a bunch of others, oh, Todd Snider, Robert Earl Keen, ...
Not to get me wrong, there's still an abundance of good stuff on there: plenty of Jimmy, live shows are great, Paul Simon, Eagles, Ben Harper, Michael Franti, Marley and Cliff, Zac Brown, etc. There are a few new artists I'm not crazy about but really it's still my go-to station.
I've never understood why they don't seem to play Gordon Lightfoot since there's a clip with Jimmy saying that Gordo was an early inspiration of his.

Ugh, guess who's back as DJ?
Anyone know if this is just covering a vacation for someone again or is this turning into a permanent gig?

I would definitely like more of the artists that inspired Jimmy - such as Gordon Lightfoot, Jesse Winchester, etc. And more of the artists that are on his albums or guest during the show - Will Kimbrough, etc.

Re: Radio Margaritaville
In addition to some of the important gripes that have been posted so far, these two things bother me as a daily listener:
1) Can they play live shows from a bit more "exotic" times ever?! I feel like I've heard San Francisco 2009 and other later shows three times. It would be awesome to hear stuff from the Feeding Frenzy era, when I think the Coral Reefers were at their best. As an example, I think it'd be super cool to hear either the full Cincinnati or full Atlanta shows from Feeding Frenzy so we could hear the missing songs.
2) I love seeing where the random live tracks were recorded, as it's fun to visualize the venues. However, it is so random (and annoyingly rare) when they put that information in. I've gathered that they don't type the date/location in for any live song that's on an album, but they also don't do it for a lot of others. The live track they play of Boat Drinks always says Atlanta 2001, but the live track of Semi-True Story (clearly on no live albums) says nothing. Kind of annoying, as they clearly would know what show it was lifted from.
Minor complaints, I know, but it's highlighted even more when you compare how professional its neighbor E-Street Radio is at those two exact things.

Heard him on my way home last night. Matt Hoggatt is just plain awful DJ! After 3 of his long winded dissertations between songs, I had to make the switch. Thank you Pandora!lime rickie wrote: ↑January 18, 2018 8:24 am Ugh, guess who's back as DJ?![]()

Couldn't agree more... Would be great to know if live cuts are recent or maybe even *gasp* from a show I've been to. I'd imagine it wouldn't take much effort to get that data in there.PeoriaTom wrote: ↑January 22, 2018 2:03 pm In addition to some of the important gripes that have been posted so far, these two things bother me as a daily listener:

When something comes up on EStreet Radio from a show I've attended, I'm much less likely to flip around.

Hey, don't be dissin' Matt! Jeez, he's told me four or five times now that Mac McAnally plays with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers!C4Parrothead" wrote: Matt Hoggatt is just plain awful DJ! After 3 of his long winded dissertations between songs, I had to make the switch. Thank you Pandora!
Did amy of you guys know that? He's a mother lode of useless but important information!

Bubba Whartz Stories! Those were hit and miss for me, but I really miss the Coral Reefer Madness Hour. I don't think either of those bits made the transition to satellite radio.krusin1 wrote: ↑August 7, 2017 12:42 am Interesting topic...

Re: Radio Margaritaville
I agree. Some of these trop rock singers just aren’t real good, and I don’t feel like I’m obligated to listen to every middle-aged guy or gal with a guitar and a sequencer who’s trying to grab Jimmy’s coattails.LIPH wrote: ↑July 27, 2017 6:27 pm I'm not a Radio Margaritaville listener but if I was, the lack of trop rock would be a plus for me. I don't think being a Buffett fan means I have to be a fan of every flip flop wearing singer who straps on a guitar and songs about the beach. There's some trop rock that I like but most of it, in my opinion, isn't worth listening to. Your mileage may vary.
I’d like to see Radio Margaritaville’s playlist expanded with a lot more Hawaiian and West Coast reggae instead. If it went toward more trop rock, I’d stop listening entirely (I’ve cut way back because I’ve finally come up with a playlist that slays what RM does on a regular basis).
I’d also like to see more of their DJs doing their shows live, rather than prerecorded. They’ve had way too many moments of the DJ talking about the song that just played or is about to play … but it’s the wrong song.

Re: Radio Margaritaville
Bubba Whartz stories by Morgan Stinemetz, formerly of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and other places, appear in print quarterly in Cruising Outpost magazine (the inheritor of the Latitudes & Attitudes legacy after that whole mess went down). (Oh, and Cruising Outpost also appears quarterly.) Also, there’s at least one book. I have no idea if they’re new or if they’re reruns from way back when.chippewa wrote: ↑January 23, 2018 4:28 pmBubba Whartz Stories! Morgan Stinemetz also co-wrote a cruising guide to the Florida Keys, and if anybody would be able to whip that together it’s him. I can’t find an obit so I am forced to believe that he’s still alive at 81 years old, but I can’t find any sign of him on the internet either.
I did find a note that he was arrested and put on 1 years’ probation for waving a gun around back in 2014.

Re: Radio Margaritaville
back in the day, long before radio margaritaville was on sirius, there was a channel called the vacation channel. It played alot of buffett and also had a nice mix of other artists like the beach boys, some hawaiian stuff, harry belafonte, some reggae, and more. it was a great mix. i like to see them return to something like that.
