Sucrose Sucrose by Fictional garage band from a comic book
Sugar, Sugar by the Archies!
The Monkees refused to do this, so Don Kirchner hired studio musicians.
Andy Kim sang it. Of Rock me gently fame
According to my vast store of musical trivia (and confirmed by Wikipedia, among others), Andy Kim co-wrote the song with Jeff Barry and provided some background vocals.
'The Archies' were the product of one Ron Dante; a 'band' created through overdubbing, which Dante had already done with 'The Cuff Links' (their biggest hit was "Tracy"). Two people (Dante did the male voices, Toni Wine provided the female; although Dante himself would later sing falsetto on other 'Archies' songs like "Jingle Jangle") would do all the vocals — one voice per take — to a prerecorded instrument track laid down by anonymous studio musicians and then overlaying them all on the final release. Sort of an audio version of the way Disney made cartoons using their famed multi-plane camera. -"BB"-
