After all a house is just a place to keep your stuff

Still one of my favorite movies. It's quirky. I saw it in the theater when it came out. My Dad loved it. And the music is wonderful.

We celebrate more for her birthday than for his. Decorations, signs, her favorite foods and this year a Pinata in the shape of a horse![]()
While I'm NOT 20/20, my eyes have also improved in the last 4-5 years.big john wrote: ↑August 23, 2018 3:52 pm Good afternoon. I just got back from my yearly eye exam. My eyes have been getting better the last 2 years.
Without glasses my vision is 20/20! They said it's very rare for someone my age to not need glasses for anything.
Some older guy asked me what my diet was. I said, "Beer and cigars".![]()
You can do this. Just distance yourself emotionally. If you've not looked at it, needed it, or want a family to have it in the future, take a picture of it, and get rid of it.
Thanks, I think I'll be ok, but hubby is a packrat, so convincing him to let go of stuff I think will be the hardest part...lime rickie wrote: ↑August 23, 2018 8:22 pmTotally agree. Not everything is precious. You will always have your memories. But some stuff truly is just stuff.springparrot wrote: ↑August 23, 2018 8:14 pmGood luck with downsizing stuff. It is never easy. You have to be ruthless.....sometimes it is hard to get rid of memories.melon59 wrote: ↑August 23, 2018 8:07 pm Things have been very crazy around my house the past week or so. This past weekend we made the decision to bite the bullet and put our house up for sale and downsize a bit. We built this home 29 years ago and raised our 3 girls here. So its bittersweet, but we are not getting any younger (what???) And we are tired of not having a garage in the winter. (No fun) we have 3 bedrooms a loft and full bath upstairs that get used about 3 times a year when the oldest daughter and the 5 grands come to visit. We are just going to miss our 3 wooded acres, hot tub deck, location on a dead end road and seclusion. Still doesn't feel real, but I'm sure as soon as I start packing and selling and pitching nearly 30 years of accumulated stuff, it will get real very quickly. Lord, give me strength. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks! The picture idea is one I hadn't thought of!You can do this. Just distance yourself emotionally. If you've not looked at it, needed it, or want a family to have it in the future, take a picture of it, and get rid of it.GOOD LUCK!!
We downsized 5 yrs ago. Similar situation as yours. It took me ALOT longer than Kevin to adjust. From 3200 sqft to 2000 with neighbors attached on both sides after having preserved farmland behind us for 22 yrs. But now we both agree it was the best decision for us. Take one day at a time. It will work out. Give yourself time to adjust.
Thanks for sharing. We know its something we NEED to do as we are getting older and we recognize it will be better for us financially but we feel the same as you about being able to spit on your neighbors! You can't see our house from the road and you can't see the neighbors either, so it will be an adjustment for us as well.Saltx3 wrote: ↑August 23, 2018 9:26 pmWe downsized 5 yrs ago.
