While I was disappointed to see Jimmy playing for Obama, it in no way diminshes the profound importance of his music. I'm a die hard conservative but I recognize the value and importance of Jimmy's more liberal perspective. Besides, being a liberal has allowed Jimmy to write songs that no conservative could!

I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion...... all of us, and artists too....... what is so bad about Jimmy showing his support for Obama??
I think that all of us are intelligent enough to make up our own minds, and not vote for Obama because Jimmy supports him..........
give Parrotheads and everyone else more credit than that........

I have been keeping track on this thread and although i'm English so won't be as passionate about this election, i find it very narrowminded to suddenly dislike someone over their political beliefs, would that include your parents, brothers or sisters....Well those that don't like Jimmy anymore should just listen to ABBA or suchlike, think you should be quite safe there

"We got Parrotheads in England,i can see ya,yeah". (Jimmy Buffett. West Palm Beach 02/24/2001)
Re: No longer a fan...
That's unfortunate. God knows, I'm no supporter of Obama but you should judge music on it's own merits, not the political beliefs of the person making the music. But you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.freerider45 wrote:No longer a fan...Vote for whoever you like, but when you came out publicly for O'bama, you lost these fans. the songs will never sound the same. The ironic thing is that, even though Buffett is well known for being a lib, he seems to try pretty hard to keep his music and his politics seperate. I know he does a lot of benefits and private things for candidates and causes he supports, but I've never heard him preach from the stage like John Mellencamp or Steve Earle.
I'm a pro-life conservative gun nut so if I only listened to artists who agreed with me, I don't think there'd be anybody to listen to.

There are a couple of things that appall me about posts like this.markymarker wrote:I am done to.. as well as my sister, brother in law, father in law, etc. We are a family of right minded individuals who have loved listening to and seeing Buffett and while I believe everyone has a right to their opinion, celebrities publicly supporting candidates is very offensive to me, like their opinion means more than a normal person. Hearing what people had to go thru to get tickets makes it worse. I have always known Jimmy was a democrat. I have known about him playing for Pelosi and Clinton but he did not try to sway voters before the election until now. I have been to more than 20 shows over the past 15 years. I will probably not be seeing another. This upsets my liberal wife who I converted into a parrot head.
I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone suppports this morally corrupt socialist Obama. Considering Jimmy's huge business you would think he would have rethought his economic philosophies at least.
Farewell Parrot heads, it was fun partying with you.
First of all, why should Jimmy give up his right to have a political opinion, simply because he's a musician? If anything, what we *pay* him for are his opinions, expressed in song. Nothing says that we have to agree with him 100.00% of the time in order to enjoy the rest of it.
Second...there's a difference between doing a special concert to support a candidate and pushing politics in his regular shows. I've never really seen him do the latter, and that's way cool.
Third...I'm appalled at how many people are parroting (interesting choice of words) the "Obama is a socialist" line without either looking up what "socialist" really means, researching how many government programs already have elements of that in them, or fact-checking in any way, shape, or form.
Finally...since when did America become a country where people become mortal enemies for taking opposite sides in an election?
Last week, a wise Parrothead from the DC area posted something to the PHIP list, to the effect that what makes America a democracy and not a dictatorship is that we have at least *two* parties. We should be thankful for this. And I believe that we should also try to return to the politics of an earlier era, where people could disagree respectfully and would at least make sure that what they were repeating had some truth in it before spouting it off. At the risk of invoking Godwin's Law, that whole "One People, One Party" thing is a bit overrated and dangerous to contemplate overlong.
Unless, of course, it's the type of party that serves free drinks. I'll vote for that!
If that doesn't work for you, good luck finding a place to live where everyone agrees with you all the time. I for one won't miss ya.

I'm just glad that guy didn't add an apostrophe to Obama's name (O'bama).

I noticed someone had added an apostrophe the other day. I found it sort of funny.
