This is so true, we were in SF this last July and we were to only ones wearing shorts and everyone spotted us as tourists. We looked funny wearing shorts and denim jackets. It only took a few days to catch on and start wearing long pants again. I feel that is sacrilegious in the middle of July. I actually think it's illegal in NJ.

While I don't agree with Jimmy, and would prefer he keep his comments to himself, he is human and he has an opinion and just like all of us he can say what he wants. That's why this is the greatest country in the world. This said Jimmy doesn't always support Democrats as he did support Charlie Crist of florida for governor, so he might not always support who we like at least supports both Republicans and Democrats. Guess we will see if Jimmy was right or if in four years we will have to fix a bigger mess?

As I said in an earlier post that's what makes this America, where you have the right to disagree. Try that in somewhere like Cuba, Venezuela or Saudi Arabia and see what happens to you!

Amen.
Not to mention Iran or China.

Yeah...ok....I was listening to Buffett the other day and his music only came out of the left speakers!! Damn Democrats! Seriously....does it really matter who he endorses politically??? Aren't you just listening to him for the music, and the escapism? Who he endorses does not matter, and just because he publicly does so, does not matter either. He has the right to do so. It's AMERICA!!!! Get over it....If you stopped watching, or listening, to most entertainers becasuse of their political views....you would not be very entertained.
BTW: I'm a Republican.....and don't care who Buffett endorses. I just like his music and his crazy, beautiful, wonderful, well dressed phans!

Phinhead I couldn't agree more. I happen to be about as big of a republican as you can get and when I met Jimmy he was totally cool, even asked questions. The funniest thing was the look he gave me when I told him I was going to Russia to go Bear hunting. His response "Really?" but then he also said "well that's pretty cool, have fun." He respects our opinions just as much we should respect his. And really do we listen to his music for political messages or hidden meanings? Hell No! I just want to think about enjoying a beer when I am listening to him at work. By the way "Go Conservatives in 2012! What? It's just an opinion. Love all of you fellow Buffettnewsers!

But it still isn't the government's responsibility to take care of you and it's still morally wrong to take money from one group of people who has earned it to give to another that has not earned it.
And why not wait to see what the guy actually *does*, rather than wailing gloom and doom before he's even had a chance? People in this country *used* to be mature enough to do that. It's called "being sportsmanlike" and "being a good loser." Try it sometime.
I never did otherwise. You seem to be reading a lot more into my post than is really there.

Folks, you want preachy artists? Just go see The Eagles (my favorite, even more than Jimmy), who had the Dixie Chicks playing with them several months ago.
Nothing like Don Henley going off or the cute chubby lead singer from the Chicks. Yada Yada Yada, the "man corrupts all" type of stuff. Makes Jimmy look like milktoast. Love Don, so I keep going and out up with the chatter.
I will not stop seeing or listening to Jimmy based on the Obama man thing, and it is a shame this new poster is signing off for it. I would not like to hear Jimmy or anyone else talk politics at a show. Like many have posted here, I do not wish artists to tel me how to vote, how to raise children, which Church to attend, or anything else. Geez, let me escape.
I have seen Jimmy several times this year and thankfully, he not once brought up anything more controversial than wanting a cocktail after the show. Mindless fun.
Do not want to hear his views at a political fundraiser? Simple, do not attend.
I was kind of hoping this thread would turn into something much bigger than US politics.
i.e. "Jimmy Buffett is a Florida Gator fan? WTF? F Buffett! He should NOT do that! He just lost me as a fan fo-ever! What nerve! I've been a fan for 456 years 43 days and 4 hours, and now, because of Jimmy's stand, I will no longer be! I will leave any restaurant that plays a JB song immediately and boycott forever! Who's with me? Also, I've got a M'Ville margarita maker, the box set, every single live album, 15 cases of Landshark, and 4 copies of SYKBH that HAS to go! Screw you JB!"
no such luck, though. but really, if someone is selling a margarita maker for cheap, I'll take it.

I'm a conservative an hope the republican party can re-establish it's core beliefs before 2012. The part that liberals don't understand is, the more power you give the govt, less power you give to the people. The problem with that is, where does it stop? One day you wake and you have less freedom than the day before.
Jimmy certainly has the freedom to support whoever wants, if we were all the same...what a boring world this would be.
Now that it's all over, let's all get back to Boats, Beaches & Bars!!!

Actually, I understand this completely.
Sadly, the Bush administration does not, nor do those members of the Religious Reich who want to legislate what happens in people's bedrooms and apply faith-based "litmus tests" to all candidates for political office. For openers.
Until the Republican party exorcises these Taliban-like fanatics from their ranks, classic Republicans like Barry Goldwater will be spinning in their graves.

While I don't generally agree with most of Jimmy's political views, at least he is smart enough not to espouse them when I pay to see him.
I have seen him well over 100 times now, and I don't remember him ever trying to influence any election.
If you are going to a fund raiser or a show to raise awareness for something, that's one thing. But I think the man is smart enough to know that his job is to entertain.
