Favourite Buffett Live Album
I don't know if there is some kind of poll or whatever about this so I thought I'd ask: what is your favourite live album by Jimmy? Out of the Big Three (ABC's You Had To Be There, MCA's Feeding Frenzy and Mailboat's first release Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) and then I guess overall, all the rest of the Mailboat issues. My fave of the Maiboats is Hawaii but overall my fave is YHTBT.

Re: Favourite Buffett Live Album
Only two live sets I own is Feeding Frenzy and the multi-disc combo (2 CD/1 DVD) recorded in Hawaii a couple years ago.
(I plan on getting the Wrigley Field set in the near future.)
I like Feeding Frenzy, but until I hear the others I really can't comment.
This does give me a couple new ones to search out, though......

A couple of years ago, Mailboat released "Live At Wrigley Field" on CD. I have Feeding Frenzy and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays also. Live At Wrigley is still my favorite.

"You Had To Be There". Easily. Takes me back to when I first became a fan.

You Had to Be There.
He was still THE Jimmy Buffett.
Should be played on vinyl with reefer in the air and a beer in your hand.

Re: Favourite Buffett Live Album

All the others pale in comparison, especially the blatant cash-in ones (if you don't know the lyrics leave 'em on the cutting room floor, I'm talking to you, This Hotel Room). Anguilla might even be in the running if he didn't leave off the lesser played tunes he broke out for that occasion. Buffett underestimtated his fanbase yet again.
Re: Favourite Buffett Live Album
What's nice about Hawaii is that it hinted at what was coming with LTC...
Having watched/listened to the Wrigley DVD I couldn't see spending my money on the record for that - it's just not very good. The Boston album is better and Anguilla - yeah, more of the obscure tunes would have been better. But it's still a pretty nice album.
YHTBT is the king for me though. Back when the songs were PLAYED, not imitated.

Re: Favourite Buffett Live Album
im going to be diplomatic, but really to me all of them are awesome in their own unique way. the first one i bought was feeding frenzy and that album really got me hooked and then when i got you had to be there i understood more of what jb was all about. tuesdays, thursdays, saturdays is great because it really makes me feel like im at one of the shows. as far as all the other live albums, they're bonus.

I have a similar response. Each album seems to have its own treasure.
For me, I think it is a tie between Tuesdays and Wrigley. Then, a tie between Anguilla and Fenway. YHTBT is another good one.

Re: Favourite Buffett Live Album
For me, You Had To Be There, did the best job of capturing the feel of a live show. Feeding Frenzy has some songs I love but the way it is put together has always felt disjointed. And Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and all the recent live albums seem to be repeats of each other, with one or maybe two different songs per album. This is just my opinion and like everyone else, I've got at least one.

No question about it - You Had to Be There...I go way back with JB - I am an A1A devotee... I worked security at an Elon College JB show in early 1977..am a big fan....but anything other than YHTBT....misses the spirit.....even though some of my favorites are not on there....and I will further say.....the emperor has no clothes....Buffett's current live shows are a pale compoarison to the old days...it seems like he' going through the motions (forgetting lots of words - to even the newer songs, missing cues, lots of self deprecation that seems quite weak as he is a very high grossing live artist, etc) and the tail gate party has become the main draw for me...

Live at Wrigley. I was there and it was incredible and I love listening to it over and over.

No flaming from me, I appreciate the honesty but you have to remember there are some here that won't feel the same way. Even starting a thread suggesting what songs should be retired from the setlist was deemed "negative" by some.capndar wrote:No question about it - You Had to Be There...I go way back with JB - I am an A1A devotee...
