I just bought the album tonight and ran through it once and right now I'm leaning towards "Surfing In A Hurricane".
I just think it rocks and it reminds me of another Jimmy song....maybe "Trouble On The Horizon"...for some reason. Musically, Up On The House Top.
I'll have a new fave soon I'm sure
"It's crazy and it's different, but it's really bein' free"
I chose "WINGS." It's a great song, and I hope he sings it during the 2010 tour.
I could only pick one answer, but I actually have FOUR favorites on Buffet Hotel.
Wings.
Big Top.
Rhumba Man. (I'm starting to practice, ladies, so SOMEDAY.......................)
Beautiful Swimmers. (This is a beautiful song, and they can say what the want to about Jimmy's singing voice, but this song proves to me once and for all, he has a voice that was made for ballads).
I got my download the other day, and yesterday got to hear it in full.
Both pleasing at times, and sometimes sounding like a rehash of past melodies...
I especially liked the last two songs - Life Short Call Now and Buffet Hotel
Both make me want to find out more about what's behind the lyrics
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!
After listening the album about five times now, I'm leaning towards "Something to Drink About". "Turn Up the Heat" and "Summerzkool" are goodies in my book as well, along with "Big Top" and "Beautiful Swimmers".
I liked "Surfing in a Hurricane" when I heard it live at Alpine Valley this past summer, but it's lost something on the album. Don't get me wrong, I still like the song — maybe it's me. Alpine was my first time ever at a JB concert, and what with the images on the backdrop/side screens perhaps I was just caught up in the moment.
They'll all end up growing on me. I remember that I didn't really care for "Apocalypso" or "Lage Nom Ai" the first few times I heard them, either. -"BB"-
"I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead." "Some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic, but I've had a good life all the way."
We Learned to Be Cool From You instantly 'grabbed me'. I love the lyrics and the music and can listen to it over and over. That's the one I'm going with... right now anyway.
I picked Beautiful Swimmers, because I only get one vote, but I really like almost everything. Rhumba Man is particularly appealing, but it's Jesse's not Jimmy's own.
I picked "Nobody from Nowhere". Good song. But there are several others that could've gotten my vote, too.
Does anyone know if the Willie mentioned in "We Learned to be Cool from You" is Willie Nelson? Just curious.

I think his best singing performance was "Survive" from Volcano CD
I'm in between buffet hotel and we learned to be cool from you. I voted buffet hotel because the song it self tell a great story about the place that jimmy visited. It also sounds a lot like an older song jimmy did i cant think of it off top of my head. but differently sounds as if a classic Jimmy Buffett song.
