Caroline Jones’ new song Gulf Coast Girl features Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney

Just in time in for Independence Day, Jones debuted “Gulf Coast Girl,” a salty summer swell featuring The Pelicanaires — a jaunty cavalry comprised of Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Lukas Nelson and Mac McAnally. 

The song, co-written by Buffett and McAnally, is accompanied by a music video capturing the kick-up-your-feet-and-relax spirit Jones and company deliver on the new song. 

Backed by a subtle harmonica and relaxed guitar, Jones walks listeners through what makes a “Gulf Coast Girl.” 

She sings in the chorus: “‘Cause I’m a Gulf Coast girl, partial to the warm winds and salty water/ Gulf Coast girl, I got a little mermaid in me.” 

“I hope the song makes people feel free, breezy, lighthearted and connected to the places that are close to their heart and history,” Jones said.  

In writing “Gulf Coast Girl,” Buffett told the Tennessean that he and McAnally focused on the Gulf Coast lifestyle to “come up with a ‘feel good’ song that would do the same on beaches and lakes thousands of miles away from the beach I grew up on.”
