The 1990’s
- 1990: A second live album Feeding Frenzy is released, recorded in Atlanta and Cincinatti.
- 1990: Jimmy does the song Don’t Bug Me for the Arachnophobia soundtrack
- 1990: Jimmy does backing vocals on Zachary Richard’s Women in the Room
- 1991: Jimmy and Jane reconcile and move back to Nashville
- 1991: A second childrens book by Jimmy Buffett and his daughter Savannah Jane called Trouble Dolls is published.
- April 1, 1992: Jimmy and Jane Buffett’s second daughter Sarah Delaney is born
- 1992: Jimmy’s second novel Where Is Joe Merchant? is released and makes it to #1 on the NY Times fiction bestseller’s list
- 1992: Boats Beaches Bars & Balladsis released and becomes one of the best selling box sets ever for MCA.
- 1992: Jimmy starts his own record label in Nashville with the help of his ex-wife’s husband Bob Mercer
- 1992: Jimmy does some vocals and produces Evangeline’s self titled album under the Margaritaville Records label
- 1992: Jimmy Buffett, Gloria Estefan, “Wierd Al” Yankovic, Paul Simon, Crosby Stills and Nash, the Bee Gees and Ziggy Marley took part in a benefit concert in Miami to raise money for the victims of Hurricanes Andrew and Iniki.
- 1992: A Margaritaville Cafe and store opens in New Orleans on Decatur St.
- Jan 20, 1993: Jimmy entertains at President Clinton’s inauguration ball. Bill joins in and plays saxaphone.
- 1993: Jimmy and Jane move to Palm Beach, Florida.
- 1993: Before The Beach is released containing songs from Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee
- 1993: Jimmy is the executive producer and does three songs for Margaritaville Cafe Late Night Menuincluding a cover of Another Saturday Night
- 1993: Jimmy does the song Stars Fell on Alabama for More Songs For Sleepless Nights
- 1993: Jimmy’s song Stars on the Waterappears on the soundtrack for the movie The Firm
- 1993: Jimmy is the executive producer on The Iguana’s self titled album
- 1993: Jimmy begins working with Herman Wouk on a musical adaption of the novel Don’t Stop the Carnival.
- 1994: Jimmy does the song Mr Spaceman for the Muppett’s collection of songs Kermit Unpigged.
- 1994: Jimmy does “Mac the Knife“with Frank Sinatra (mixed in) which appears on the album Duets II
- 1994: Jimmy has a cameo appearence in the movie Cobb.
- 1994: Jimmy and Jane Buffett adopt Cameron Marley
- 1994: Jimmy’s father James Delaney Buffett is diagonised with Alzheimer’s disease
- 1994: Fruitcakes is released
- Aug 25,1994: Jimmy capsizes in his seaplane Our Lady of the Waters, a restored Grumman Widgeon in 4 ft of water after take off from Madaket Harbor at Nantucket
- 1995: Barometer Soup is released
- 1995: Jimmy has a cameo appearence as a pilot in the movie Congo.
- 1995: Margaritaville Cafe New Orleans is release with two songs by Jimmy, Goodnight Irene and the cover songSea Cruise
- 1995: The Parakeet Album is released containing Buffett songs sung bykids form the W.O. Smith Music School
- Nov 16, 1995: Jimmy buys a new plane: 1954 Grumman Albatross Seaplane HU-16 N928J, The Hemispher Dancer, 60ft long with an 80ft wingspan.
- January 16, 1996: Jimmy’s sea plane “the Flying Boat” is shot at by the Jamaica police who mistaked him for a drug smuggler. U2’s Bono was in the plane with him at the time. Jimmy wrote a song about the incident, Jamaica Mistaica.that appears on the album Banana Wind that is released.
- 1996: Jimmy is the executive producer for the soundtrack to the movie Phenomenon
- 1996: Jimmy has a part as a cop in the audio play Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
- 1996: A Christmas Album titled Christmas Island is released.
- April 1997: The musical Don’t Stop the Carnival opens and has a sucessful six week run at the Coconut Grove playhouse in Miami
- 1997: Jimmy’s mother suddenly has a stroke.
- Aug 19, 1997: Jimmy sings at President Clinton’s 51st birthday party.
- 1997: Jimmy does the Purple People Eater song with Iko-Iko for the movie Contact
- 1997: Jimmy does the song Trouble on the Horizon for MOM II
- Sept 1997: Jimmy performs at the Montserrat benefit concert at Royal Albert Hall in England. He did a special version of Volcano and joined in with artists including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Phil Collins, and Sting on the encore Hey Jude.
- Oct 1997: Universal Pictures purchases the film rights for “Where is Joe Merchant?”
- Jan 13, 1998: Re-release of Rancho Deluxe CD by MGM/Rycodisc
- Feb 1998: Caribbean Amphibian is released on the Elmopalooza CD/video that Jimmy did with Kermit.
- 1998: C. F. Martin & Co. honors Jimmy Buffett with a signature edition guitar. Only 424 were made originally going for $3650.00
- 1998: Jimmy goes to Cuba to cover the Papal visit for Rolling Stone Magazine
- 1998: Jimmy Buffett has the role of a journalist in the HBO Mini-series From the Earth to the Moon
- April 28, 1998: The soundtrack for Don’t Stop the Carnival is released. It was certified gold by on Sept 2 1998.
- 1998: Jimmy co-writes the song South American on Brian Wilson’s Imagination solo release.
- June 9, 1998: Jimmy’s book A Pirate Looks at Fifty is released. He becomes the sixth writer to reach the number one spot on both the NY Times fiction and non-fiction best seller’s list
- June 21, 1998: Jimmy sings “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field to honor the late Harry Carrey
- June 30, 1998: Re-release of Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee
- July 1998: A Margaritaville retail store opens in Charleston, SC
- Sept 1998: Jimmy sells his home in Key West Florida
- Oct 1998: Jimmy covers John Glenn’s return to space
- Feb 2, 1999: American Storyteller is released
- Feb 4, 1999: A new Margaritaville restaurant opens in Orlando
- March 4, 1999: Radio Margaritaville debuts with a live show from the new Margaritaville in Orlando
- March 18, 1999: Jimmy buys a new plane: 1998 Cessna 208 – N208JB
- March 29, 1999: Jimmy performs at Music Bridges with various artists in Cuba
- May 18, 1999: Beach House on the Moon is released
- May 28, 1999: Jimmy appears on the Today Show
- Aug 10, 1999: Calaloo CD is released exclusively at Best Buy stores
- Aug 17, 1999: Jimmy performs at the House of Blues in Chicago
- Nov 6, 1999: Jimmy performs at the Le Select 50th Anniversary in St Barts
- Nov 9, 1999: Buffett Live: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays is released
- Nov 20, 1999: Jimmy performs an acoustic show in Sag Harbor to benefit the Montessori school
